I love these pastels, they are smooth, roll on easy and blend ever so smoothly. I love that they dry in a relatively short period of time but stay wet just long enough to blend with another color and create such fantastic varieties of color. I really liked this paint set. The colors worked really well together and blended nicely. The paint had a great feel when laying it down on the page, and dried quickly. The yellow and cream are not completely opaque in a single coat (over the other pastels), but all the rest had excellent coverage. I didn't test them over black, however. The box rates them all opaque with their transparency ratings, but I didn't find that they performed that way. If it is important to you, the box also gives you the pigment number, which shows Arteza is trying to make this a more professional product, and not a craft product. Do you need this set? Strictly speaking, probably not. It isn't hard to mix your own pastels. But is it fun to collect colors? Yes, and these are nice paints. I used to think of Arteza as a budget brand, but it isn't cheap. It is decent, student-grade paint, for a decent student-grade price. These have a very similar feel to Liquitex Basics, which can often be found for cheaper. So know that you are getting great paint, but not necessarily a "great deal", at least not at list price. It's a fair deal. Finally, each color has a lightfastness rating, Apricot Orange is ++ the rest are +++. I was unable to find what this relates to on the Arteza website, so asked their customer service. First, it is counter-intuitive, with fewer + signs being better. (Per the agent: "+"- Excellent, "++" -Very Good, "+++" -Good, “++++”- Fair) However, when asked what time frame this correlates to, I was told "based on our own criteria." So it doesn't appear to be independently tested, or conform to ASTM standards. If you sell your original art, I would not recommend you use these. (Again, the comparison to Liquitex basics, they are all listed as ASTM 1-Excellent or 2-Very good, which is 50-100 years in gallery conditions.) If lightfastness is not important to you, then this is a great product, and very fun to paint with. If you are used to craft paints, it feels like a step up. ... show more
