Description

(Cummins 5.9L Dsl 24V) Built for the (98-02) Dodge Ram 2500... Obtaining the optimum cylinder head-to-block sealing is especially critical in small displacement engines employing high compression pistons or power adders like turbochargers, nitrous oxide and superchargers. That's why ARP head studs are popular among leading Sport Compact/Import racers.You should know that ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy that is rated far superior to "aircraft" quality. Then, each stud is precisely heat-treated to 200,000 psi. Following heattreat, each stud is centerless ground to make it as close to perfectly concentric as possible. This procedure involves about ten very slight cuts and results in an exceptionally straight part. It's important to note that lesser quality studs are not even centerless ground the material is thread rolled in bar stock form (mostly before heat-treat, when the material is easier to machine). Because ARP studs are manufactured to such exacting tolerances, you will note that gaskets and cylinder heads literally glide into position and are perfectly aligned something that won't happen with inferior quality head studs.ARP studs are thread rolled after heat-treat, which gives them about 1000% (that's ten times) better fatigue strength than those studs that are threaded prior to heat-treat.You will also note that ARP offers specially undercut studs for several engines. This procedure (done only to the shorter studs) more equalizes the "stretch" of both studs, which makes for a more consistent clamping force one that compensates for head gasket compression when the head is installed. This helps prevent blown head gaskets, and assures optimum sealing!

ARP head studs went in smoothly without any complications. I was due to run the valve lash so I had decided to install the head studs while I was in there. I didn't need to replace the head gasket so I just replaced them 1 at a time following the ARP sequence but setting initial torque at 100ft pounds initially. This was done to maintain constant near previous install pressure on the gasket at all times. After all bolts were replaced, I ran the torque up to 125ft pounds and the final pass was 130ft pounds. I should have installed these studs many years ago but never felt the need to as I was only making 40 pounds of boost which if done correctly should not lift the head. Anyway, I have always been a fan of ARP and I do recommend their fasteners. ... show more

First set came used. Looked good. Nuts start good, then start dragging about 1/3 down threads. Shows studs have been torqued previously. Replacement set was great. Worth the money

Dropped right in, cylinder 5 and 6 are tough on the body but the cummins platform is easy to work on. I had to remove the Upper and Lower valve covers, the injector wiring, the rocker girdle/risder, and I had to remove most of the intake rockers to get a socket on, you might be able to do it with thin wall sockets. You also need to trim the rocker girdle with a die grinder or you won't be able to install. Adjusting the rockets is easy, see dark iron diesels video on youtbe. Should add some strength to my truck for a 467 upgrade. ... show more

Stronger then stock! Fit my 2003 5.9 24 vavle dodge Cummins great! Did have to modify the rocker box to get it to set down almost all the middle studs touched the aluminum so clearancing was a must with a burr bit!
