I recently purchased this item from Wayfair via Amazon US. Although a number of quality concerns arose during assembly (especially considering the relatively high price point of this laminated MDF item), a damaged--or incorrectly manufactured--part prohibits our intended use of the cabinet. One of the file drawer rail guides began to pop its bearings when installing the drawer itself. I immediately removed the drawer and found that the thin metal tabs which secure the bearings within the glide mechanism were slightly bent, preventing proper assembly and operation. If Nexera is willing to replace this part, I will be able reinstall the file drawer and make use of the unit. Without functional extension glides, all that remains is an expensive piece of junk. In the interest of disclosure, I have never owned or used another product offered by Nexera. My rating and attitude are based solely on quality concerns with this specific item. That said, I have purchased items of similar quality--out of sheer need and/or financial lack--at much lower costs-per-pound: 1. Out of the box, black-finished parts chafing against natural-finish parts (inner drawer panels) left difficult-to-remove black marks on the latter. Since these are only visible when the drawers are open, I suppose this is no more aesthetically offensive than the many unfinished edges (see below). I would have tried more diligently to remove the marks were it not for... 2. Certain black panels showed light heat or adhesive damage (bubbling, I suppose), When I tested one such spot I managed to take away a bit of laminate with my fingernail. So much for "resistance to scratches" or trying to make the unit look presentable from all angles. Facing these inside concealed the damage, but should a consumer really have to choose which side to display during assembly? I'm still debating whether I should attempt to remove adhesive residue from the top panel of the cabinet, which unfortunately offers no alternate face to show the world; 3. The "all around finish" trumpeted in the product description is true, insofar as "all-around" can mean "only on surfaces visible after assembly." Unfinished MDF is asking for trouble, especially when load-bearing surfaces are involved (bottom edges of drawers onto which slide rails are to be attached, for example). 4. Likely due to the lack of finish on certain surfaces, I spent nearly forty-five minutes vacuuming and then wiping dust from parts prior to assembling them. This was not Styrofoam packaging residue but dust and small fragments of MDF; 5. The finish and workmanship are inconsistent. In addition to the laminate damage noted above, I found glue residue along hard edges. More significant to the integrity of the unit, pre-drilled holes were not consistent across matching parts. This, combined with the generally poor-fitting nature of certain parts (top and sides, for examples) resulted in visible gaps in the assembled product. Though I would hardly have expected to put wood screws into bare MDF, there were no prepped placement holes for attaching rails to upper drawer panels; 6. I understand this was probably necessary to in order to package the unassembled item in the smallest possible carton, but the rear panel being manufactured as two panels is hateful, especially on a piece that weighs as much as this does or is expected to store a large volume of paper and other heavy materials. This kind of imposed deconstruction also exacerbates the overall cheapness of the item. I can see already that this piece is unlikely to survive a move. Considering the relatively high list price of this cabinet, I foolishly expected more. Even the substantially discounted sale price did not prepare me for the underwhelming quality of this item. At the very least I would like to make use of the cabinet, even if I have to hide it in a corner. I have submitted my concerns to Nexera Distribution's customer service department and await their response. UPDATE (17 April): I received an almost immediate response from Ellen in Customer Service, who followed up at every opportunity. Once I supplied photos of the various issues, Nexera sent replacement extension glides and rear panels. While the latter only partly solved the "gapping" issue, the cabinet now looks and feels more solid. Most importantly, the file drawer functions as intended. Though my feelings about cost versus value remain unchanged, I have added one star to my review to reflect the manufacturer's excellent customer service.

I was nervous about purchasing this product because I have a lot of experience with prefab furniture, and I know it can be a nightmare. This cabinet is a solid value. It's reasonably priced and does the job well. I had a problem with attaching the glides for the lower drawer; the drawing is a little unclear, but common sense prevailed, and I was able to figure out the correct alignment. It helps that there are videos online illustrating all the common assembly steps for their products. It was actually fun to assemble, until I made a huge goof as I was putting the drawers into the fully assembled cabinet: I held the file drawer at an angle, not realizing that the glides weren't aligned correctly. It's an easy mistake to make, as the bottom drawer is bulky and awkward to position (be careful when doing this step!) I compounded my error by attempting to use force. I knew I'd made a huge mistake when I heard a cascade of ball bearings shoot out of the glides on both sides. I was fully prepared to pay for a replacement part when I called the company in Montreal. The woman on the phone offered to send a replacement, and the NEXT DAY I received a Fedex shipment with a new set, FOR FREE. I've had the cabinet for a few weeks now. It seems sufficiently sturdy, and the drawers all glide smoothly. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who wants a functional, reasonably priced piece of furniture, and who is competent at this kind of prefab assembly. I have one concern about the product. The parts that attach the top to the sides function a bit like drywall mollies: they expand to grip the predrilled holes. The gripping element is plastic, and I'm concerned that if I were to remove the drawer and move the cabinet by lifting from the underside of the top, the top could conceivably come off. If I move again, I'll be careful to instruct the movers to lift from the bottom to avoid this possible weakness. However, I'm not an engineer, and it's very possible that the top is attached with sufficient strength.

I bought this because I was specifically looking for a file cabinet of this design with three drawers of which the bottom draw will hold either legal or regular size files. it was the only option I could find. Here are the pros & cons: * the draw style is unique and suits the purpose of being able to remove office clutter & store file * the black style finish gives a contemporary look * when assemble all parts where included ( many mfgs mess this up and have poor inspection off the line) * at $230 dollars it is an okay value Cons: * the assembly is a project for even the most accomplished DIY person - I consdier myself quite capable in the department and it took me 2 1/2 hours. DO NOT BUY This file if you have never assembled a piece of furniture unless you pay the assembly fee * with 2 girls through college I have assembled my fare share of IKEA furniture. The quality of this piece is less than IKEA * the draw sliders, particularly the bottom ones are not very substantial All this said, I don't regret buying the piece. It looks nice, was the size and draw configuration I wanted, and it does the bought it for. It will do while I look for this style draw configuration in a high quality unit. However I am certain I will need to pay twice as much to get the quality I will look for.

Some pre-drilled holes not accurately placed making it a little harder to assemble. Finished unit is solid. We are using 3 for dressers. Wheel on front of bottom drawer can scratch hardwood floors. We left it off but if you have heavy files you will need it.
