  • Tried and true go to boots

This is the 3rd pair of these boots my husband has purchased. Long wearing, Rugged. Very comfortable. He and I have worn these for years. We wear them until they are ready to fall apart (which takes several years working around our farm and horses). Great for hiking, work, casual wear. We love these boots. ... show more

  • Good boot for the price.
Size: 12 Color: Distressed Brown
I normally purchase Thorogood , Chippewa and other U.S. made boots for daily wear outside and while walking and hiking. Sadly, there is no such thing as a 90 dollar pair of American made boots. I have several hammer toes on each foot and need a wide toe box. I was looking for a combination walking-hiking-general wear boot that's lightweight and requires no break-in. I have been wearing these boots daily for 9 months and still like them. They were comfortable out of the box. I oiled them up well with pure Neatsfoot oil and right away took them on a 7 mile hike that had good ups and downs and several creek crossings. They performed well. As far as traction is concerned they are a compromise at best. Great care is needed on wet or loose slopes and rocks. On the other hand, the tread is designed to be fairly even to slip in and out of a saddle stirrup easily. Most boots suitable for hiking with heavy-lugged Vibram soles would be dangerous to wear while riding a horse. Additionally, I can come in from the pasture without having to take them off or do a stomping and scraping jig to avoid bringing a lot of the pasture into the house with me. The insoles could be better. They basically failed after 6 months and were not providing support. I went into a Red Wing store and put a pair of custom insoles in them that made them far better than when they were new. All in all these are a decent boot for the price. Very comfortable. In the summer I often wear Chaco sandals, but so far I've not felt compelled to get out of my boots in a hurry. I will more than likely order another pair this summer, since just the other day I spilled about a cup and half of turquoise paint on my left foot. The old pair I'll expect to last as beaters for quite a while longer... I put this review away for a few months and now I'll finish it. It's about two weeks to the day when I ordered these boots in July of '19. They have literally been worn all day, every day. Today I noticed they are failing at the toe guard. Separation is happening on the big toe side of each boot where the rubber toe guard meets the sole. They are now officially beaters and I'm about to order another pair. The only complaint I'd have about these boots - other than the fact they aren't made in the U.S. - is the insoles. They're crap. Virtually no support after about 4 months of daily wear and weekend hiking. I solved that issue by going into a Red Wing store and getting a pair of their insoles. Those insoles are still working great and will go into my new boots as soon as they get here. Here's how I look at it, 90 for the boots and 50 for the insoles is 140 dollars, divided by 365 works out to about 38 cents a day for trouble free, comfortable all purpose boots. ... show more

  • Good boot for the price.
Size: 9.5 Wide Color: Distressed Brown
I'm not sure if I would be giving these 4 stars if not for the price, I paid for them. They do seem to be a good quality boot. And I bought them only to use around the property and on walks up our in-town Butte. So, I believe they'll work well for my needs. And they are a good-looking boot. I'm not sure how they would hold up for more serious hiking. The sole tread is good for what I will use them for, but I do not know yet know how much traction they would provide off-road. And the leather over the foot seems to be thinner than I've seen before. This probably makes the boot lighter. And I did treat the leather with snow seal, but I'm not sure yet how resistance they'll be to light rain and snow. I bought a 9-1/2" wide and they fit my wide feet well. ... show more

  • Poor wear quality
Size: 7.5 Color: Distressed Brown
I bought these boots for our 13 year old son to wear on the farm for chores and other daily work over the summer. He was happy with the fit and how they looked. They worked well for all of June & July while feeding cattle, mowing lawns, and haying. However, after those 8 weeks, the boots broke down where the rubberized toe meets the sole of the boot. They fully separated and his toes were exposed by the first week of August. At this price point, I wasn't expecting these to last forever. However, 8 weeks of wear is a poor value. My son wore these daily, but the use wasn't extreme duty. We bought a pair of Danner boots on sale for $100 in early August and they're still going strong in late October. We really liked these boots while they were functional, but the wear quality of these just doesn't justify the purchase. I would look elsewhere. There's good alternatives in this price range. ... show more

This is my 2nd pair of these Ariat boots. They are very comfortable, can be worn all day, keep your feet dry and warm. I’ve turned my other pair into farm boots, so these will be used for casual dress and hiking.
