Description

It was stunning then, and it’s stunning now: Arcade1Up is thrilled to release Dragon’s Lair in a home arcade form factor, faithfully reproducing its nostalgic gameplay, and gorgeous cabinet design! In 1983, video game designer Rick Dyer and legendary animator Don Bluth captivated the industry with Dragon’s Lair, a spectacular game that was unlike anything seen before, so ambitious and so advanced that it mesmerized video game players across generations. With its hand drawn animation, creative levels, and strong dose of sword and sorcery humor, crowds gathered around Dragon’s Lair just to catch a glimpse of this “I can’t believe I’m playing a cartoon!” sensation. Now, relive that magic at home, no quarters required! The Arcade1Up Dragon’s Lair home arcade cabinet not only features the title game, but also the sequel Dragon’s Lair II: Time Warp, and the sci-fi adventure themed Space Ace. All featuring the beloved animation style of Don Bluth, all a phenomenal fun time. Renowned for producing authentic arcade experiences, Arcade1Up game cabinets are absolute must-haves for family game rooms, man caves, or a welcome distraction in the office. Among the most requested retro game titles for Arcade1Up to release, Dragon’s Lair -- with its included matching riser -- will become a centerpiece in any home arcade collection. It’s Dirk the Daring to the rescue.

  • Arcade1ups nicest looking game yet!
Aesthetically the best recreation of a classic arcade game yet(IMHO), gameplay is pretty good, controls work well, LED overhead scoring is a great feature as the original release had back in the '80's, love the attract videos like that of the original arcade game, and this is just as challenging to play as I remember from when I was a teenager sinking quarters into it and losing almost within minutes. Looks amazing in our game room, and will be sure to please any fan of Dragons Lair. Recommended purchase for sure. Great packaging throughout, and assembly is average for anyone who's built these 3/4 scale games, roughly an hour and a half to build. ... show more

  • Love it
I tried to play this game as a kid. I even purchased a book on how to play. It cost $1 to play and I never made it past the first scene. I finally got past the first scene. I always wanted this arcade because it looked like a cartoon. This machine is great!! Looks and plays like the original and I can play as much as I want. I recommend it!!! ... show more

  • Certainly works like the original machine
I used to think that the original laser disk version of the game was my problem, as I would die very quickly almost every game. I think most of us who were of the right age when Dragon's Lair came out loved the graphics and the possibilities. That said, it is a very difficult game as well as very short game. You can set to unlimited lives, so even if it's difficult, you can make your way through the game. I ended up selling it for about $50 plus sales tax less then I purchased it for. The guy that bought it thought it was broken because it was so difficult. It wasn't broken, he just found it equally challenging. If you're looking for an attractive machine for your arcade, this is nice, but if you're looking for playability, you might want to look elsewhere. ... show more

  • Great game, great price!
Great game that looks good and plays well. Only downside is that it will take 2 to 3 hours to build. Take your time and do NOT use a power drill.

  • Game play challenging at first, later much easier
This game is great! Original was played from a laser disc that was inside the cabinet. So in reality all you are doing it hitting the correct directions or button to jump to the next scene. Every scene has its own set of directions. Some scenes you can hit the sequences early, some you have to wait for the scene to change before you start the sequence (rolling ball, mud men, etc.) They are always the same. All you have to do is remember the sequence and timing for each scene. Even after having them all remembered, sometimes you mess it up and die. Leaving it on infinite lives can take the challenge element out and make it less exciting; less fun in mho. I love to see how far I can get with the 3 lives once every few days or so. Out of all the arcades, this one is by far one of the most fun to watch on screen. Does 1up have space ace? If not, they should definitely get that out ASAP. This game was ahead of its time back in the 80's so its difficulty level is very high. Just leave a note pad next to the game and write down the sequence of steps for each one you pass and when you get stuck there are only 3 other choices to move or hit the sword button to move on. Its not that complicated if you have a great memory. ... show more
