One small tablet in a smart water bottle, shake, wait 30 min and drink. Worked perfectly for my recent hike, using stream water and springs for sources. My approach was to clean the water in one bottle while drinking from a 2nd, so the 30 min wait was not an issue. The taste was fine = just a minor chlorine smell and taste that is not much different than many city water supplies (better than the iodine based solutions). it's in my first aid kit and using it when going backpacking or when I surprisingly empty my water bladder quicker than i thought. Needless to say I've used a couple or those and they work great. Be aware of the dosage if you dont want a chemical (swimming pool type) taste in your mouth, it's light but I often forget. the dosage and go beyond for safety (like 3 instead of 2). Simple to use, almost zero weight and each little tablet treats a surprising amount of water (2 liters / half gallon) I have a couple of flat collapsible 2 gallon water jugs - one for untreated water (hand washing) and second for treated water (cooking). These are filled every 2 days from a local lake or stream for every 3 people. I am a bit of a cryptosporidium and water color nut job, so after this chemical treatment to add to personal drinking water supply I use my Grayl filter on the treated water (yes double purification) Happy Camping ... show more

These are a must for any situation that requires you to drink water that hasn't been treated or boiled. Water filters such as lifestraw or Sawyer don't actually remove everything they claim to as far as bacteria (many tests have proven this) And while filters do a great job of cleaning the water up, these tablets will make sure to kill all bacteria ( I believe it actually keeps the bacteria from reproducing) Occasionally I do get an off taste from these tablets if used in certain water bottles, but nothing an LMNT electrolyte replacement packet or flavor pack doesn't take care of. ... show more
