These stingrays are great. Highly recommended. We all love them from the littlest to grandma and even the dog. We couldn't keep the dog out of the pool. They're made of foam with plastic fins, so if she would've caught one, it would've been a dead toy. We eventually had to put her inside. They glide under the water for a really long time. From the deep end of about ten feet, it could keep gliding for close to 30 seconds and easily the full length of the pool (35 feet). Our 5 year old released and chased the thing for half an hour until it was time to get out of the pool. You can adjust the fins left and right to make it go straighter or to make it swim in a circle for smaller pools. It isn't a sturdy toy, but neither are pool floaties and people spend a bunch of money on those. We'll buy more for sure. ... show more

They do glide, they probably do go 40 feet, but in a circular motion. I have adjusted the wings in all directions and there's little change, it still wants to do the circular motion. Sometimes I turn it upside down and it goes straighter a little bit more. As far as a boomerang, it makes it circular motion you grab it I guess that's a boomerang, but it still making a circular motion otherwise. Would I buy it again? We were pleasantly surprised with these little toys. It is rare for something to function as well as described, but these do. My kids (and myself) have had a lot of fun playing with them in our pool. I had been looking for an interesting non-diving toy for my youngest who doesn't swim underwater yet. These are different from anything else we have found, and were an instant favorite. I witheld the final star on durability simply because we have not had them for long and I don't know how well they will last. They have held up to a week of pool play so far. Edit: these fun toys lasted about 5 weeks. The hard plastic wings all became brittle and broke on both toys on the same day. Even with th lasting less time than we would like, I was ready to repurchase because of how much my kids enjoyed them. However, we stumbled upon them in our local Dollar Tree store and we're able to purchase them for $1 each rather than the higher price here. The dollar store toys are slightly larger and the wings are attached in two places instead of one, making them seem a bit more durable. I still recommend these, but perhaps you might want to shop around to see if you can find a better price. ... show more

I thought these were pretty awesome for my boys. A good physics lesson for them, basically the buoyancy of the foam fights with the wings of the stingray which are pointed down, and they kind of cancel each other out and end up going straight. These really do glide underwater, probably the farthest we got was about 15 yards or so (maybe halfway across the swimming pool). You do have to fiddle with it to get it to straight, but that's part of the fun. Other people gathered around and wanted to check it out. ... show more
