No apple slicer/corer that I’ve purchased and returned was only able to cut a soft apple. I use sweet-tart firm apples. I just tested this one on a very firm Pink Lady apple. I needed to lean on it to get it started and I needed to bang on the counter get more of the corer down so I could start removing the pieces. It was impossible to get it to release the core and pulling didn’t help. The blades are impressively sharp, so to finish the job, I used a plier-type tool to pull out the rest.
