If you like gadgets or things that seem to simply your life, then its the little things that make you happy right? Well, if you use extension cords, not talking about those indoor 2-6 feet one but heavy gauge 25+ foot ones. Unwinding them usually ends up with some knots or when finished rolling them back up ends up a snarled mess. So enter this outdoor extension cord reel. In practice does it make this chore better? Yes. Is is worth it? I hate to say, Maybe. Why? For the weekend handy person, this can save some time and frustration. For someone who used extension cords for work, I would say this will not hold up to the daily rigors of a work environment. The reel case is plastic, nothing wrong with plastic IF it is of a heavy thickness, which this is not. To give you some perspective, it is about as thick as 4 or 5 playing cards. I don't think it would survive a 5 foot drop. The overall feel of the reel case, the A/C outlet sockets are flimsy. Now it did what I needed it to, so I don't have any complaints about utility, just for the cost, I would have hoped for something that gives the owner some confidence in the overall construction. The cord itself appears to be sturdy and of decent quality. Held up to 4 hour power washing and two 6 hour electric paint sprayer sessions without any problems. PROS: helps simplify the chore of deploying and securing an extension cord for outdoor or even indoor use. Four outlets and circuit breaker protection. Fairly light weight and relatively compact size. CONS: the reel case feels flimsy, the winding knob feels like it can break off in short order, the A/C outlets feel cheap. Probably won't survive a 5 foot drop, especially when the cord is wound up (heaviest) OVERALL: recommended for light and non-commercial use. Would like the case to be slightly thicker and the winding knob to be metal in a metal to plastic bushing. Cost vs value is med/low ... show more

The Cord Reel feels fairly solidly built. I love having the 4 grounded outlets and being able to simply reel in the 80ft instead of trying to keep it untangled manually. I have another long extension cord and I dread trying to keep it straight. This cord reel is well designed, reliable, and has a solid warranty (see below). I also like the reset button. I think I got water on it while powerwashing one day and it cut itself off. I removed it from the spray area, dried off the outside, pushed the reset button and was back up and going! I also wanted to mention that the company stood by the 3-year warranty. I had my original for two years and then it randomly stopped working. I left a question on Amazon product page asking about how to file a warranty claim and a representative of the company contacted me within 36hrs and they sent me a replacement within a week. I really, REALLY appreciated their diligence and ownership of the issue. ... show more

If you're not familiar with the dangers of using an extension cord while reeled-up, be warned, you can seriously melt the cord and start a fire. We almost melted an outdoor extension cord once. It was long, and so we had it looped up and didn't need to extend power from the house very far. Well, it got hot, very hot, and part of it began to melt. That's the danger of using a reeled extension cord. It might be rare that you have it fully extended, so is it safe to use? If you are using it coiled, per the directions, don't exceed the max load 375W/125V. Uncoiled it can go to 1250W/125V. There's more on the safety info sticker (and I've uploaded a photo). We had a small air compressor, and I wondered if I could use the cord reeled with it, but the air compressor didn't list the watts, it just had amps and volts. Not an electrician here, but a little searching showed you can find the watts by multiplying the amps by the volts. (Correct me if I'm wrong in the comments on this). Anyway, our air compressor was under the limit, so I could use it coiled without worry. However, I would never want to leave it coiled, plugged in, and un attended, it's just asking for trouble. As far as the reel goes, it works pretty well. The cable would come out of the little guide, when reeling, but the convenience of have the cord reeled is worth the extra effort. Extension cords have always been a pain for us to store. Also, just FYI, the extension cord cannot be removed from the reel. Just FYI. ... show more

I use this for many projects around our one-acre property. Pressure washing, leaf blowing, etc. It is very easy to uncoil and re-coil the cord, which is heavy-duty and weather proof. The 4 outlets are a great feature, and the overload breaker does work. It has shut things down on a rainy day, for example. I was fortunate to find it on sale, because it seemed pricey at the time. However, I think, given its functionality, quality and durability, it is worth the money. ... show more
