I've had a lot smartphones. I am not easily impressed. When I pulled the iPhone Air out of the box, I stood there for a full minute just holding it. That reaction tells you everything. DESIGN — 5/5 At 5.6mm and 165 grams, this is a paradox you have to hold to believe. Titanium construction (while other 2025 iPhones got aluminum) gives it structural integrity at this absurd thinness. Ceramic Shield 2 on the front adds 3x better scratch resistance than any previous iPhone. It feels like retail hardware from five years in the future. PERFORMANCE — 5/5 The A19 Pro chip matches the iPhone 17 Pro in benchmarks, runs cooler under load, and the 12GB RAM keeps everything snappy. Apps snap open, multitasking is instant. No complaints. DISPLAY — 5/5 6.5-inch OLED, 3000 nits, 120Hz ProMotion, always-on mode, 460ppi. ProMotion was a Pro-only feature for years. Having it here feels like a genuine upgrade for the category. CAMERA — 4/5 The single 48MP rear camera is the trade-off. No ultrawide, no telephoto, no macro. For everyday shooting it's excellent — but photographers wanting versatility will feel the absence. The 18MP front camera with dual-camera recording is a standout for creators. BATTERY — 3.5/5 Smallest battery in Apple's 2025 lineup, and it shows. I ended most days around 20%. Manageable, not comfortable. BOTTOM LINE Not the right phone if cameras are your priority — get the Pro. I ordered an Amazon Renewed refurbished iPhone Air 256GB (unlocked) from Amazon in March 2026. Apple initially released the iPhone Air in September 2025, so any given unit couldn't be more than 6 months old. For that reason I took a chance by ordering a unit in "Excellent" condition, rather than "Premium" condition, for $80 less. (As of a week later, Excellent units are even cheaper compared to Premium units.) The phone arrived in perfect condition. Not a scratch on it. And even better: its battery health/capacity is 100%, which is far better than Amazon promises for "Excellent" condition units ("Battery: >80% of original battery life"). The OS reports that the phone was first used in October 2025, and only went through 7 battery cycles. So, it seems like it's a unit that someone bought new and returned almost immediately. In my experience, these "Amazon Renewed" phones come from a variety of vendors. My iPhone Air came from "T4C We Track Serial Numbers." --Yes, weird name (maybe a warning to buyers who might try to swap phones by returning a different phone?). But they provided a perfect product. As to the iPhone Air, I settled on it after trying a few different phones, including the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 16e, the iPhone 16 Plus, and the iPhone 17e. I had always thought of the iPhone Air as a terrible compromise: larger (but not largest) screen, lesser camera, and far less battery capacity. However, I wanted a slightly larger screen than the standard 6.1 inches, and I don't really prioritize my phone's camera. Plus, I also don't use my phone so much, every day, that I need huge battery capacity. So, after finding that the iPhone 16e's and iPhone 17e's screens were too small, and that the iPhone 15 Pro Max was just way too bulky and heavy, I gave the iPhone Air a chance. I found that the iPhone Air's larger screen (6.5 inches), lighter weight, and dramatically thinner frame make it really pleasant to handle for light, everyday use. And the single-lens camera and lower battery capacity are sufficient for my needs. You can put a nice case on it, and it still feels way thinner than any other iPhone. ... show more
