  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely fantastic machine, best purchase I've made in years!
Style: Apple M5 Max chip Capacity: 48GB Unified Memory | 2TB SSD Storage Color: Space Black Set: Without AppleCare+
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely fantastic machine, best purchase I've made in years! I'm an engineer running my own company, and this MacBook Pro 16" M5 Max (48GB/2TB) has completely transformed my workflow. Coming from a desktop Windows PC with an i7-8700 and 64GB RAM, the difference is night and day. Speed: Everything is instant. Apps open in a blink, heavy spreadsheets load without any lag, and I can run multiple apps simultaneously without a single stutter. The performance is unreal. Battery: With normal use I'm getting incredible battery life. Easily a full workday away from the charger. Build quality: The Space Black finish is stunning. The screen is gorgeous. The keyboard and trackpad are the best I've ever used on a laptop. Productivity boost: I connected it to a Thunderbolt 5 dock running three external displays, and it handles everything flawlessly. I organized years of emails, set up my entire workstation, and my productivity has increased significantly. Going from a stationary desktop to a portable powerhouse that I can take anywhere, meetings, job sites, travel, and then dock it with one cable back at the office has been a game changer. Delivery: Arrived exactly on the estimated date. Well packaged, no issues. If you're on the fence, just do it. This is hands down the best computer I've ever owned. Worth every penny. ... show more

Having used Apple products in the path that says exceeded my expectations completely it’s table still a little quirky because it’s McIntosh, but hey, what else can you do? It’s still better than windows.

  • Great hardware, wrong configuration. I returned it.
Style: Apple M5 Max chip Capacity: 48GB Unified Memory | 2TB SSD Storage Color: Space Black Set: Without AppleCare+
I bought the M5 Max 16-inch with 48GB RAM and 2TB SSD. After extensive testing with my actual workload — app development using Xcode, iOS simulators, Docker, Node.js, MySQL, and Chrome — I returned it and got the 14-inch M5 Pro with 64GB RAM instead. Let me explain why, because it could save you thousands of dollars. RAM is the #1 spec that matters right now. Whether you’re running local AI models, virtual machines, or just a heavy multitasking workflow, RAM is what determines whether your Mac feels fast or slow. Apple’s unified memory can’t be upgraded after purchase, so this is the most important decision you’ll make when configuring your machine. My Activity Monitor regularly showed 46GB+ usage during normal development sessions. At 48GB, this machine was already near its ceiling on day one. The M5 Max chip exists for one reason: memory bandwidth (~600GB/s, double the M5 Pro). That bandwidth only matters for two workloads — running large local LLMs (70B+ parameter models) and very specific professional applications like heavy 3D rendering or 8K ProRes video editing. Here’s the problem: if your workload actually needs that bandwidth, you almost certainly need more than 48GB of RAM to go with it. A 70B model at Q4 quantization eats ~40GB just for model weights, leaving almost nothing for macOS and your apps. You’re paying the Max tax for bandwidth you can’t fully use because there’s not enough RAM to feed it. Most software doesn’t even utilize the M5 Max. Xcode, Chrome, Slack, most creative apps — they show marginal or zero improvement over the M5 Pro. You’re paying for GPU cores and bandwidth that today’s software largely ignores. And with the M6 Ultra MacBook expected later this year with OLED, touchscreen, and a complete redesign on 2nm, this won’t even be the top Mac for long. Apple almost certainly has long-term RAM supply contracts that would let them offer more memory at this price point. The fact that they pair their most expensive consumer chip with only 48GB at a $4,399 starting price is a configuration that doesn’t serve anyone well. If you need M5 Max bandwidth, you need 128GB to actually use it. If you don’t need that bandwidth, the M5 Pro with 64GB gives you more usable memory for significantly less money. What I bought instead: 14-inch M5 Pro, 18-core CPU, 64GB RAM. More RAM, lighter, more portable, over $1,000 cheaper, and my real-world performance is identical for development work. The 16-inch screen is nice, but I plug into an external monitor at my desk anyway. Bottom line: If you’re looking at this exact 48GB configuration, stop. Either go up to 128GB if you truly need M5 Max bandwidth for large LLMs or pro video/3D work, or save your money and get the M5 Pro with 64GB. RAM is king. Buy accordingly. ... show more

  • Great quality, wrong direction

Delivery and box was great.. except that I was sent the wrong color unit. The serial numbers didn’t match and I didn’t even attempt to open its wrapping. I really wanted this MacBook and something just seemed off about it. The MacBook I was sent looked new and had no visible scratches or signs of significant use. I’m hoping it was a shipment error, but I’ll be purchasing this unit on Apple. ... show more

Fast is an understatement. This is at least four times faster for my needs than my M2 Max MBP 16” was.
