Thin material, not a thick sock. Do not stretch the material too much because you'll see more white in the background of the fabric than navy... (easy fix) I would buy more pairs of these socks, if there were other color combinations... like red w/white anchors or green with pink anchors, or yellow with blue anchors... the design is great, but I wouldn't have minded a heavier material. I bought these to wear with my Mary Jane Crocs, but they're not great. The material is this super synthetic, icky feel. The color is not a good red, but more orangey red and not pleasant. And the top of the sock is not stretchy at all and can't be pulled up, so it slouches at the ankle. UG.
