  • Very Good for price, and almost no cons. (Fast shipping)
PROS For the price range this is a very good product for what I need it for, which is painting miniatures. It has a coil on the side that is to put the hot soldering pen for electronics, but for me it can help to hold brushes or other things. LED Light is very good and the magnifying glass along with the 2 smaller auxiliary 5X and 8X glasses are handy. It is AC/DC power enabled, so that's useful if your power outlet is not at close range. SMALL CONS (this is just me being picky, but I like the product) Though the feel of the metal knobs when adjusting and repositioning the metal bars with clamps is not great (you can tell the material and construction is not AAA), you kinda' have to fasten them very hard so they're not loosen easily. Other small drawback is the short AC power cord it's like 2.5 or 3" long, but then again if you have an outlet or power strip close enough it shouldn't be a problem Packaging was a bit damaged, and the quality of the box was very low. Besides, after you put the helping hand all together it doesn't fit in the box so it doesn't encourage you to put it back in the box when you're not using it. For me it does the job just fine, and for the price I paid I'm very happy with the product. ... show more

  • Great quality for the price
Item as shown, good quality! Makes the job a lot easier with the magnifier and the holder for the iron.

  • Excellent idea with just a little room for improvement
The concept is exactly what I wanted to help me with my aging eyesight but, there are a couple of improvements that would make this five stars. The base is lightweight and could be a little heavier to help offset the weight of the project piece. The main post that everything clamps to is simply too short for it to be a 5-star item. Add to that, the main post is not removable and so I cannot replace it with a longer post. Nit-picking things but let's keep this real - this is a great item that could use a few improvements. It still performs very well for my needs but, could be perfect for my needs. ... show more

  • Decent product
Right out of the box one of the small lens fell out of its bracket so I did not want to repair it myself feeling more could be wrong with it. I can't say anything meaningful about how it works.

  • Small but awesome!
I use this to hold pieces while I paint and process small pieces. This holds them with several different options. The only thing that would make this truly awesome would be a larger and heavier base. Light length would also benefit from a longer height.

  • YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. pieces missing; topples easily;marginal utility all around.
This item features two clamps (though, on a common axis, meaning that the dihedral angle can be changed but the clamps remain parallel), an articulating (sort of) light, an optional battery (which ends up being the only option given the 0.5 m-long power cord), and interchangeable (when they work) flenses. This item is tiny: it has a stage of~ 5 cm X 10, with a lot of pieces dangling in a few directions; the base is maybe 100 g? Not a great start. One has to be extra careful to make sure it doesn't topple. Adding batteries to the base does make it heavier but that's an optional feature. The clamps are also quite weak; I ended up cutting pieces apart and re-gluing them under a vice grip after having left them in these clamps overnight. The alignment of the lenses rarely agrees with the alignment of clamps (btw, review your optics, folks, linear lens behavior is only good along the lens axis; going too far in a direction normal to beam propagation produces artefacts); really, it's a great way to see the wood fibers on the surface of my desk, but that did not need examining. I usually end up looking around the lenses to make sure the item I am "zooming in" on is painted correctly. Furthermore, adding a secondary lens gives a focus that is very difficult (if not impossible) to align with a clamp; i.e., if you have a precision part, you have to use another device to clamp it. A few of the screws were seized; a lot of torque was required to get them moving; a nice surprise when the clamps are holding a part that should not be moved. The movement along the shaft that holds the clamps is difficult and is more likely to result in the shaft itself moving. This item is cheap, cheaply made, and barely usable. The fact that it exists implies that it would work at least somewhat well. It does not. ... show more
