I’ve always owned hard-shell coolers, but after using this one I’m pretty sold on soft-sided coolers, especially for car trips and camping. The ability to squeeze into tight spaces and collapse when not in use is a huge advantage. AO is a solid brand and it shows here. Materials and construction feel well thought out and durable. They use YKK zippers, good plastic hardware, and sturdy fabric. I also like the custom webbing with AO branding — subtle but nice. I went with the gray color to break up the all-black gear theme I seem to gravitate toward, and it looks great. What I like: • Soft-sided design is far more flexible than hard coolers • Durable materials and solid construction • Trusted brand with good design and labeling • Multiple carry options (handles plus removable shoulder strap) • Small zip pocket on top for a phone or small items • Size feels right for most trips (not oversized, not limiting) • Insulation works well — pre-cooling helps as recommended • No leaks during normal use Things to know: • The top zipper is not waterproof, so if it tips over with liquid inside, it may leak • A watertight zipper would be an upgrade, but that would add cost and maintenance (especially with sand or dirt) Overall, this is an easy recommendation. The AO cooler is a well-constructed soft cooler that clearly uses quality materials, but it’s also priced higher than what it ultimately delivers. The canvas exterior feels durable and premium, with reinforced stitching and a sturdy structure that holds its shape well. It looks nice enough to use for picnics, beach days, or casual outings without feeling like a cheap cooler bag. Performance-wise, insulation is good but not exceptional. It keeps drinks cold for a reasonable amount of time, especially for short trips or day use, and the leak-proof liner works exactly as advertised—no drips, leaks, or condensation issues. The tote-style design is convenient, and it does fit bottles upright, which is a plus. The shoulder strap and handles are comfortable and make it easy to carry when loaded. That said, for the price, the cooling performance isn’t meaningfully better than several less expensive soft coolers on the market. Cold retention is solid, but not dramatically superior, and capacity is fairly standard for an 18-can cooler. If this were priced lower, it would be an easy recommendation. Overall, it’s a good-quality, attractive, and functional cooler, but the value proposition is weak. You’re paying a premium for branding and materials rather than a noticeable jump in performance. Every time I go on a car road trip with my family, one of the main first items that goes into the car is a cooler usually put on the floor of the back seats so the kids can get access to water and drinks especially on long drives. This AO soft-sided cooler with an 18-can capacity fits perfectly in that space on the floor. The soft shell sides and overall soft shell (there’s nothing hard in the cooler at all) makes it perfect for packing in spots where you might need to squeeze it in between (ie. the bottom of the back seat and the back side of the front seat). The side walls, bottom, and lid are thick and well insulated and will keep your drinks and/or food cool for an entire day or more. The slick white interior walls are easy to wash and clean (I usually just use a wet rag and wipe the inside clean if needed). There’s two methods of carry: the handle and an additional shoulder strap and both make it easy to transport. There’s also a small zippered pouch on top to store small items (ie. utensils, napkins, bottle opener, etc..). The quality is excellent but the price is a little on the high side and hence the one star deduction. You do get good quality for what you pay for but there are so many other similar sized soft shelled coolers out there at a fraction of the cost it’s hard to justify the cost. If you’re willing to shell out a little more money for this AO cooler, you will be satisfied with the quality and useability of the cooler (you do get what you pay for). ... show more

Easily one of the most premium items I've ever ordered from Amazon without prior research. It has a very sturdy design, holds its shape well due to the 3/4 in thick closed cell foam walls. The tpu lining inside is very convenient, ans its more forgiving than a hard molded interior shell. The straps and latch points are very sturdy, and well sewn in. Has a black on black logo on the straps, which adds to the looks substantially. Transforming a regular, boring looking box into a flashy, designer looking beach/camping accessory. It makes bold claims on the included literature, and while I havent fully tested all of them, I do believe them to be accurate based on what I have before me, and the performance I've gotten out of it. Well worth the price. More impressive than other comparable coolers in the same or even higher price range. 18 cans is a conseverative estimate, i would guess you could probably fit twisce that, as it states on the paperwork that you should have twice the volume of ice as items to be cooled, so its definitely capable of holding more than it claims. Especially if you freeze water bottles to use instead of ice. ... show more
