  • Stellar and Cost Effective Start to Resin 3d Printing
To preface I have never before designed, printed, or had anything made for me on a 3d printer. Before about a month ago I had no exposure to 3d printing as a hobby or 3d printers as a product. I made the decision that for cost reasons I needed to start 3d printing miniatures and terrain for my wargaming hobbies as a cheaper alternative to buying expensive miniatures and I have to say, I am not looking back. Virtually every video you can watch on Resin 3d printing will tell you the same two things, that Resin 3d printing's resolution and level of detail is beyond any other printer, but that consequently these are rather complicated machines where mistakes are consequential and calibration is required, in other words, "Resin 3d printing is not plug and play". Well, the ANYCUBIC MONO printer must be as close to "plug and play" as possible because within 40 minutes of unboxing the machine I was already printing a model on it. The assembly steps in the manual are very clear, telling you how to put together the printer and align the print face as to be ready for printing. So long as you have your resin with you, you are now ready to print, and it even walks you through printing your first miniature from the file on the thumb drive the printer comes with. Within a couple hours I had my first model, and after printing a couple more test models and playing with exposure settings, I was able to print fine detailed and well constructed scale models of ships and buildings without any issue whatsoever. I have done about 20 prints now, some with files from sites like Thingiverse and some of my own design, and have yet to have a single failed print. I have had to change maybe one item under settings to get to quality that I want, that being first layer exposure time, and find that even with the default settings using the ANYCUBIC brand resin that is optimized for their printers, I have had no issues printing models. I have never had to fully drain the resin vat and as long as I maintain and use the printer in the way specified by the clear instructions and by numerous online videos, I will not have to barring failed prints and the rare deep cleaning. Ironically this mechanism is infinitely more complex than a regular paper printer and somehow requires far less maintenance and is not tempermental whatsoever. The newest ANYCUBIC PHOTON model, which I have, is so recent that there are currently no firmware updates to speak of so you don't even have to install new software out of the box. As far as hardware goes it is a primarily plastic construction on the exterior, which is evidently not regular for most resin printers but for the price it makes since, and it in no way feels weak or structurally unstable. My only complaint about this printer is that the touch screen is small and my hands are big so often I will hit the wrong setting or enter the incorrect value while setting up for a print and have to quickly undo it before it starts, other than that the interface is easy to understand and easy to use. I got this bundle because the sonic cleaner is included and beyond the shadow of a doubt somehow even easier to use and maintain, and has cleaned and cured all of my miniatures to levels well beyond acceptable. I could probably fill a book talking about everything I have learned 3d printing and I imagine I have a lot more to find out about, but rather than me writing it I cannot recommend enough watching multiple videos from separate creators on how to do prints, why prints fail, and cleaning prints and managing the liquid resin before doing anything with your printer as it is almost certainly the best way to avoid any failures or grievances like it did for me. In conclusion, this is everything I wanted from a 3d printer and more and I am more than pleased with the performance of my set. ... show more

  • Is not "Print Out of the Box"
This is a decent starter printer. It's got a solid buildplate, decent size, and prints with a good resolution. The wash'n'cure works well and performs as advertised. It's a little loud. Other than that, it's exactly what it says on the tin, but here are some general tips that you'll want to know before you go in about resin printing in general (also get the firmware update for this printer, follow the instructions EXACTLY): You're going to have some work to do to get this ready to go. You've got to tinker with it to get the settings right, and those settings will depend on your resin. There's no "general best settings" to go with. What works for one resin might not work for another. Guides on YouTube only get you so far. That said, join some Discord Groups, Facebook Groups, Reddits, whatever. They'll get you sorted pretty quickly. Get the Towns Test, and get the firmware update for this from Anycubic. It comes with a R_E_R_F file, that's "Resin Exposure Range Finder" that will help you get your exposure settings dialed in for whatever resin you're using--use that every time you change the TYPE of resin to get it dialed in. Speaking of resin--resin is TOXIC. A paper facemask isn't going to cut it. Get a respirator, please. Get gloves. Good ones. 91% isopropyl is plenty enough for the wash'n'cure station, some people say 99% is what you need, but 99% reduces to 95% once it's not in an air-tight container anyway. Just make sure if you're using 91% to let it dry a little longer before you set it to cure. Be careful of overcuring, that'll cause cracks. Don't flush/wash uncured resin down the drain/throw it away. Again, it is TOXIC. ... show more

  • Newbie but learning Fast
This is a uge upgrade from the previous printer I had purchased for my husband. The first one he used for one day then placed in a cabinet, never to be used again. AnyCubic though has been used non-stop since it came int he door. Within the first week I was ordering more resin for him as he figured out the designs and printing steps. I recommend this for anyone starting resin printing, but will caution on how easy it is. I doubt I would have figured this out myself but he is use to architectural designing software. Overall, I wouldn't let it stop you if you are willing to tinker and are ok with failed prints. Some prints didn't go through, or broke half way, we are working on improved structures and supports as well as hollowed out designs to prevent longer print times and wasted resin. The deal with this and the washer is a must. The wash is so simple, we use simple green and ISP. It cleans out the tiniest of details, and the final bake time prevents it from falling apart. I have already primed, painted and sanded multiple creations he printed for me and highly recommend it. Make sure you do go through the full wash and cure, or it will not be as durable and will smell awful. I use the anycubic resin as well, specifically the tough resin. ... show more

  • One of life’s joys
I cannot recommend this highly enough. This set up has completely changed the way that I 3-D print and manufacture items completely. Really trying to find a way to justify buying a second one.

  • it shows excellent results
Compared to other 3D prints, it shows excellent results. It is also straightforward and has good price competitiveness compared to similar printers.

  • Great printer to learn on.
This is a great 3d printer, easy enough to learn on. Will be upgrading to a larger one soon. Anycubic software is very helpful.
