Description

The most comprehensive collection of Ansel Adams's photographs of America's national parks and wilderness areas, with more than 200 photographs — many rarely seen and some never before published. For many people, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, and other iconic American wildlands exist in the mind's eye as Ansel Adams photographs. The legendary photographer explored more than forty national parks in his lifetime, producing some of the most indelible images of the natural world ever made. One of the twentieth century's most ardent champions of the park and wilderness systems, Adams also helped preserve additional natural areas and protect existing ones through his photographs, essays, and letter-writing campaigns. Edited and with commentary by Andrea G. Stillman, the foremost expert on Adams's work, this landmark publication includes quotations by Adams on the making of numerous photographs and essays by Wallace Stegner, William A. Turnage of The Ansel Adams Trust, and journalist and critic Richard B. Woodward. This is a must-own for Ansel Adams fans and all those who, like Adams, treasure America's wilderness. Read more

  • Very comprehensive photo archive and presented on high-quality paper. Cover art superb in my view.
Format: Hardcover
There were many photos in this volume that I had not seen. The more familiar ones of Ansel Adams were included, with other beautiful and thought-provoking scenes to pique one's interest in the natural world. A wonderful addition to any bibliophile's library who is interested in black and white prints. ... show more

  • Perfect Coffee Table Book

I bought this book to put on my coffee table as more of a decor. And was pleasantly surprised when I opened it. Not only are the pictures beautiful, but the stories that go with the pictures make this book a great read.

  • Beautiful book
Format: Hardcover
I bought this as a gift for a photography enthusiast and they loved it. It is a beautiful book, the photography was spectacular. The binding of the book it self was of great quality. Only complain was the paper cover was damaged on arrival, but that is most likely because of shipping.

  • You Won't be Disappointed
Format: Hardcover
i purchased this book as a gift for an Ansel Adams-loving friend. When it arrived, I almost wanted to keep it for myself! Of course, the photos are beautiful, but that's to be expected. But the book itself is also a work of art! Heavy, quality paper, a size that's perfect for browsing the book, and a curation of photos that reads like a tour of one of America's crowning achievements, it's National Parks. ... show more

  • Beautiful Photographs!
Format: Hardcover
I first saw Ansel Adams photos in a History of Photography class in college long ago. As a kid from New York City, I was amazed at the magnificent landscapes that Adams captured with his camera. We are planning a trip to the southwest this summer, so I bought this book for inspiration in planning the trip. The photos are just beautiful! ... show more
