  • Stellar photography
I bought this book mostly for the photos. The stories are good as well. My only complaint is that the book doesn't showcase enough black women surfers and I know they exist. There are quite a few white male and female surfers celebrated in this book which was a bit of a surprise, so I know there could have been more effort with finding women of color to interview. It would have also been great to have information on how to buy the photo prints. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase and this makes a great coffee table book in my living room. ... show more

  • Didn't read the reviews, didn't really matter
This is an outstanding book. A real work of art. It's big, printed on high quality paper, with vibrant colors and outstanding graphic design. Don't couch surf this on Kindle. Buy the physical book. It's a visual and tactile experience- like real surfing :D

  • Beautiful book
This is a great book! I love that I found a book about African surfers. I was researching for books on Afro-Latino American Nick Gabaldón for my son’s Santa Monica Black History project and Afrosurf popped up as a recommendation. The graphic design, typography, and photography is beautiful. The information about African surf culture is fantastic and the vignettes on the surfers (all genders) is inspiring for all. I like this book so much that I bought 3 copies. One for the shelf, one for my children’s school library and another to cut up and frame. My 9 y.o. wanted some of the images in his bedroom. ... show more

  • This is more than a book, it's a beautiful object to behold
I was looking forward to this book from online previews but they can't do it justice. It's a hefty book with one of the best covers I've seen in a long time. And you CAN judge this one by its cover. It maps out the African continent from a surfer's perspective but also shows the promise of the place, often so lacking in media coverage. A sense of promise comes with this book, and the people featured love Africa and its traditions and are optimistic for its future. The photographs and the graphic design are excellent. I'd highly recommend this to all fans of surfing photography but would go further and recommend it to anyone with an eye for beauty and adventure. ... show more

  • Beautifully executed and informative
This hardback edition is packed with intriguing biographies of a subset of surfing culture I’d not ever heard about. The illustrations, illuminations, and photographs are stunning. One of my best birthday gifts to date.

  • Love it!
Afrosurf is a visually stunning and colorful look into the surf culture in Africa. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book, and as an added bonus, I found all kinds of new music suggestions that have kept the whole family jammin'. Buy this book.
