after finally getting it together it would not stand at 90 degrees with out help. When springs are pushed down by hand they don't come all the way back up on one side. The degree marks stamped on the side are useless In short there are better drill guides out there for less money that aren't perfect but from what I read even with there faults are better than this drill guide.

This is… ok as an occasional use tool. It is not the best option out there, but it's not garbage either. The unit is constructed in mostly metal other than the retained clips at the bottom, and the handle. It went together easily, somebody mentions 4 hands to build, but the bottom clips have a bolt retainer so you just put the bolt in and then push from the top for each side to assemble, the tops are knurled slightly so you can rip there to twist on the bolt. Once assembled it's going to let you get reasonably close to the desired angle if you use a separate angle finder to set it up. There are markings for the angles on the tool, but nothing to reference it to, and the fittings are so sloppy I would not trust that, instead loosen, use a separate angle guide to set it up and then it does the job fairly well. Mostly I regard this as an occasional use tool. The depth stop works, and it will stay at the angle you put it after some setup. If you are planning to use something like this daily, spend 2-3x the price on a better one, if you only need this as an occasional use for bringing the drill press to the piece then it makes sense. The card tool it comes with is… fine. It is not great but not bad, I will throw it in a camping bag and forget about it till needed. Even then I have better tools for everything it does, but hey as a free bonus it's nice enough.

Poor QC, guide rod did not fit the bridge due to a blow hole in the casting causing preventing the guide rod sliding up and down.

I actually thought about makin something like this but ended up with a drill press and that solved most of my needs but it is benchtop and sometimes impractical to lug around. The idea on this is really simple and the execution isn't bad but it isn't amazing either. The arms are clamped on with bits of rubber than nothing is really indexed for angle. It has tick marks on the one side to align but its fiddly. Once clamped in the rubber doesn't hold very tight and the thing gets out of alignment. It might hold tighter if you could tighten the arms but they don't provide much grip. Still better than I could do by hand and with some extra effort you can get it straight. The design is handy besides all that, the depth stop is handy and it also has a stop at the top so you can put a holding start. The v block makes holding round stock simple. The chuck tracks straight enough to get work done and it is light enough to transport and use on a site.
