  • Just two guitarists and a drummer jammin'.
I don't hear it...the bass that is. Maybe they never promised to add Jason properly into this mix to begin with. Ohh ya, there's bass...from a bass drum. I love me some drums, but Lars' bass drum is way over-the-top and exaggerated. This is just two dudes jammin' on their guitars and one drummer. Waste 'o time and money for me. Face it. Metallica is gone. They're not coming back. It's sad to say that in 2018 the best you're gonna get is "And Justice For Jason". These dudes don't care about the music...perhaps never did. Better to turn your back on them like they claimed their fans use to do to competing opening bands in the club days. The party's over. Better to discover and immerse yourself into new genres...Jazz, Classical, other new, underground metal from guys that weren't even born when this album was first released. I was going to get this on vinyl; what's the point? Some fans from back in the 80's did well in life...got a good education and job...never forgot our roots. We bought $10,000 speakers and $2,000 turntables in the hopes of vinyl making a resurgence in the metal community. This was our lifestyle; not a phase. Rush remasters didn't disappoint, Page & Zeppelin did their due diligence, Maiden is still shrink wrapped on my shelf...I have time. Nothing good is coming out anyway. And here's "Metal-licka". This was their one sin they had to atone for...put Jason in the mix! And they flubbed. Screw it. It's done. The money's been spent. Luckily they only scammed me for a $10 bill. Out of the CD player it comes. Exile is it's punishment. It won't dance with the other CD's and LP's. It will look down from it's shelf and ask why it doesn't get to play like the others, and I will say "because they don't disappoint. I am ashamed of you. You're no son of mine. Darkness imprisons you. You're absolute horror. Now die." ... show more

  • ... Remastered For All
A lot of people are disappointed that there is not more bass, but this is a remaster. There is not going to be added bass. They didn't add to the original, they didn't remix it. They didn't cut more of the original tape. They took the '89 master recording and remastered it. What bass is on it has been brought forward in the mix. There are nuances that you can now hear that was not here before. It's especially great if you listen with ear buds. I love it. I think it sounds awesome. ... show more

  • Should be called "...And Tinnitus For All"
I own 3 different copies of 'Justice'. I have my original Elektra copy, I have a copy of the re-release on Blackened Records, and I recently picked up this "remastered" version, also from Blackened Records. In short, this is the worst mixed album I've ever heard, and I cannot recommend it to anybody with working ears as it will likely cause you literal and actual pain and (hopefully only) temporary hearing loss. We all know the original album is amazing if not flawed, but this remaster is orders of magnitude worse. They took whatever inaudible noise was on the bass tracks and cranked it up much louder; the bass is still not audible, but SOMETHING is there! You cannot hear it, but it is there, messing up your ears. It is like this album is resting just beyond the audio equivalent of a black hole, and the songs you are hearing is Hawking radiation. There is a massive "something" just beyond the audio range humans can hear and it is PUNISHING to your ear drums! I can listen to my Elektra copy in my car at volume 15 at normal settings and it sounds good. My original Blackened version, same story. This remaster copy MUST be listened to with the bass turned down to -10 and even then the volume cannot go above 12 and even THEN my ears are STILL ringing after listening to it. I just got home from work and my ears are BUZZING! If you already own an old Elektra copy, great, keep it! If you own the original Blackened version, great, keep it! If you are thinking of buying this because they "fixed" the flaws in the original, DO NOT BE FOOLED, the flaws are not only still there they are exponentially worse. I cannot recommend avoiding this re-master strongly enough! ... show more

  • Great Remaster even with the same mix.
As was mentioned by other commentors, this is just a remaster and not a remix of the album that many fans desired. That being said, the remaster sounds great and has far more punch and clarity than the old edition. Any fan of this album should definitely consider the upgrade especially at this good price. As for a remix, I do feel that the band missed an opportunity to release it as a bonus disc like Pearl Jam did with Ten a few years back. I am really surprised by this decision given the reputation of the album's production and the success artists like the Beatles have had with remixes. From what I have read though, this might not be possible due to condition of the old tracking tapes. Overall I am happy with the purchase and quality of the remaster. I am looking forward to the Black album remaster to round out Metallica's classic period. ... show more

  • Excellent remaster
Only reviewing whether or not you should upgrade your old CD to the remastered single CD version. Comparing the two with headphones, the remaster has better separation and I like the sound much better. For the price of the single CD, it's a no-brainer if you love this album. The booklet is exactly the same as the original booklet, but it is in a paper case now instead of plastic. If you're looking for a remixed version because you're caught up in this social media storm of how dare they remove the bass part, this ain't going to help you. This is version I know and love, that I bought the day it came out and played constantly for at least a year. I get what people are saying about the bass being non-existent, but, you know what, I really don't care. This is a great album and I'm sure Lars and James released the album sounding the way they wanted it to sound, and it's their music. If it wasn't for social media, very few people would have even noticed. ... show more
