This works well as an anesthetic, and lasts just about as long as it take me to eat a meal, so I guess that's just right. It has a small, but not too bad, impact on the flavor of the meal, especially if you get it on your tongue (but what do you expect from an anesthetic?). It contains saccharine for sweetness, though, which I would otherwise completely avoid in food. You would think that this would have the same effect as the actual liquid but it doesn't. The liquid Works 10 times better and faster and last longer than the gel.
