Description

The AmScope PS25 microscope slide set includes 25 prepared slides of a variety of specimens including plants, insects, and animal tissues used in basic biology education. The samples are preserved in cedar wood oil and sealed with a coverslip to preserve specimens and prevent contamination. Labeling on each slide identifies specimens. Slides are composed of optical glass for clear viewing and are 3 x 1 x 0.4 inches/75 x 25 x 1mm (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The set comes in a fitted wooden case to prevent breakage and ease handling.Slide specimens include coprimus mushroom (cross section), dense connective tissue (section), dog cardiac muscle (longitudinal section), dog esophagus (cross section), dog skeletal muscle (longitudinal section and cross section), dog stomach (section), honeybee worker leg- composite (whole mount), house bee mouth parts (whole mount), human blood (smear), hydra (longitudinal section), Hydrilla verticillata leaf (whole mount), Lilium anther (cross section), Lilium ovary (cross section), nymphaea of apustio stem (cross section), onion epidermis (whole mount), pig motor nerve (section mount), pine leaf (cross section), pine stem (cross section), pumpkin stem (cross section), rabbit spinal cord (cross section), rabbit testis (section), sunflower stem (cross section), Tilia stem (cross section), young root of broad bean (cross section), Zea stem (cross section). Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.What's in the Box?(25) Prepared slidesFitted wooden case

  • Great samples
Color: Brown Style: Slide Set
The box it comes in is wonderful, kids enjoy looking at the samples. Great samples of plants, those were their favorite besides honey bee samples that were given. I even learned from some of these by doing further research with kids.

  • Decent starter set with a qualification.
Color: Brown Style: Slide Set
The slides were purchased for a young girl working with her first "real" microscope. They are generally as-presented and professionally-made. However, as introductory materials, the staining could have been a lot better to see the features that instructional materials are assumed to illustrate. For example, the blood sample's red blood cells were a lot harder to see due to the low contrast with the background. A standard Giemsa stain would have made the sample a lot easier to see for the untrained eye. The slides were otherwise of decent quality and worth the price. ... show more

  • Helps nurture the love of Science.
Color: Brown Style: Slide Set
This product was purchased by my 7 year old. He loves science and wanted more slides for his microscope that he received for Christmas. He loves learning and these slides really helped nurture that. The case that they come in is fantastic and helps keep things tidy. Great product for the value and did not disappoint this household. ... show more

  • Scientist in the making!
Color: Brown Style: Slide Set
Bought this set to go along with a PBOX Microscope Science kits for kids microscope Beginner Microscope Kit LED 100X, 400x, and 1200x Magnification kids science toys, red as a Christmas present for my almost 8 year old niece because she had decided this year that she was much too old for "toys" and had graduated to wanting more "big girl" gifts! She took a few moments when she first unwrapped the gifts, leaving my wife and I a little concerned that we had overreached with her age, but once she wrapped her head around what she was looking at, she was all in! We had to help with the initial learning curve (for some odd reason, this 7 year old was not completely familiar w/lab equipment), but once you clear that little hurdle, the curiosity takes off! She quickly went from a little kid opening presents to inquisitive scientist, explaining to the entire family each new slide that was currently under observation. The slides are legitimate glass, have shaved off edges to minimize the opportunity of cutting oneself, and come in a sturdy wood case to protect the slides and help keep them organized. My main overall knock against the slides is that as great as it is for my niece to experience very unique specimens, they are also unique enough that her excitement becomes a bit muted as many of the specimens are not things she can readily recognize/understand (e.g. aqustio nymphaea). And frankly, even after the adults in the room admittedly looked some of these up and did our best to explain, certain slides were just so far out of the world she could relate to that they became a bit uninteresting. Plus, one of the slides arrived cracked and many of them were smudged coming out of the box, so please be sure to inspect/clean them before letting your kids dive in. Listing of the slides: Aqustio Nymphaea Stem, Bean Root, Connective Tissue, Coprinus Mushroom, Dog Esophagus, Dog Heart Muscle, Dog Skeletal Muscle, Dog Stomach Muscle, Honeybee Jaw/Mandible, Honeybee Leg, Human Blood, Hydrilla Leaf, Lily Ovary, Lily Anther, Onion Skin, Pig Nerve, Pine Leaf, Pine Stem, Pumpkin Stem, Rabbit Spinal Cord, Rabbit Testicles, Sunflower Stem, Tilia Stem, Zea Stem ... show more

  • Good starter slide set for the budding biologist
Color: Brown Style: Slide Set
I purchased this set to compliment a microscope for my 6 y/o. After understanding what mitosis is, she was disappointed when we couldn't find a mitosis example in the onion slide. Same went for a few more slides before we saved the day with chia seeds aka dragon eggs & sugar aka crystal towers. The point is that these are serious educational slides. Without understanding what you are looking at, these will be useless. So before you consider purchasing this set, do consider your target audience. That said, I will go ahead & try to give it my impartial review Pros - 25 different slides that cover various mechanisms from biology. I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting the topics from my school years. - Slides are nicely prepared - Slides are in a nice wooden slotted box. Each slot is numbered with a paper provided that lists which slide corresponds to an individual slot. - Each slide itself is labelled with the appropriate description. - The wooden box has a piece of foam padding on the top so that the slides don't toss around & break accidentally Cons(mostly minor) - Some slides have inherent contamination which could be viewed at higher magnifications. - I wish the foam protecting the slides on the top was glued to the top inner surface. I'm sure we will lose it at some point - The paper listing the slides could be on a heavier stock. Best if you make a copy cause it'll be easy for it to be lost or tear if it gets wet - The numbers on each slot are hard to view once the slides are in. If say you want to view slide 16, you would have to count each slide to get to it, or perhaps play the guessing game.( If the manufacturer is reading this, you can offset the numbers so that they can be viewed easily with the slides in the slot) This set is great for kids who are being introduced to these concepts. Overall, a good buy. ... show more
