  • This is the tub to buy!
During my bathroom remodel, I wanted to replace an old 70s cast iron tub with something wider, deeper, safer, and more comfortable. My alcove accepts a standard 60" tub but had a little extra room for a wider version. So this tub fit the bill. My contractor installed it as instructed in the paperwork. Tiled all the way down to the ledge. It does not rock, flex or make any noise. It feels like cast iron, but is a bit lighter. It retains heat better than my old tub. It's just as quiet as my old tub, in fact, it's muffled like cast iron, does not ring when tapped like other modern sheet metal tubs. The anti-slip surface (bottom only) is much safer than my old tub (which was slippery), albeit a little more tricky to wipe clean. It feels like it has a sand paper texture but is not hard on the feet. The rest of the tub is smooth as silk and wipes clean after every use with a damp towel. I've used it at least a dozen times now, if not more, giving it a quick wipe, with no staining or scum build up. I enjoy the extra water depth of this model. I am a mid-aged adult (ie: not skinny) and this tub allows for a relaxing, deep, soaking bath that covers the entire body. The back rest area is more rounded, smooth, and comfortable than my old tub. You can just lean back in this tub and practically fall asleep. The cons are few and far between. (1) It takes longer to fill. Duh, it holds more water than a standard tub. Make sure your hot water supply can deliver at least 30 gallons of hot water, when mixed to warm. (2) It does scratch and chip a little easier than my old cast iron tub. My contractor left two tiny marks, one is a tiny chip about the size of a pencil point, and another is a 1/2" scratch. Possibly from dropping tools or something, barely noticeable unless I point them out. He's not sure how it happened. Neither am I. It's no big deal. So far they haven't rusted. I plan to reach out to American Standard for a touch-up kit. It seems like no modern tubs are made with the same indestructible coatings as the older cast iron tubs. But it seems durable enough for everyday use. Just don't drop tools, tile, or metal parts into the tub while installing. Don't sit on the ledges with tools in your back pocket either, etc. Ignore many of the negative reviews about American Standard Americast. I'm happy with mine. The home delivery via Amazon was stellar. They dropped it off right at my front entry way. They even stayed while I opened and inspected the entire tub with a flashlight just in case there were shipping damages or major blemishes. Mine came in 100% good condition. The crate was not damaged at all. Note however the tub inside was a bit dirty, which made it harder to inspect after opening the crate. Have a dry cloth towel handy to wipe off dirt that may otherwise look like chips or scratches and ask them to stay while you quickly check. Refusing delivery due to damage is much easier than having to send something this large back later. Hope this review helps somebody. ... show more

  • Wonderful tub
I would have never considered ordering something as big and substantial as a bathtub online until this year. will review not only the tub, but also the delivery here. 1. the tub is great. Nice and deep. Fit perfectly and was a very easy install. Comfortable for all members of the family. the only minor issue I have is the "grippy" areas on the bottom get dirty faster than the rest of the tub. Its part of the safety design though, so it was expected after I found out it had them. 2. delivery was super smooth. We told them the day we wanted it delivered during the checkout process...and it showed up that day, and they dropped it off right in front of our garage door. I now have no qualms with ordering even the largest, bulkiest items from Amazon ... show more

  • Great tub
I installed this myself for a remodel. It wasn’t easy and you will need patience and some light construction/ light plumbing experience. Get the subfloor level whether that means reworking your subfloor or using floor leveler. It looks great and seems to be a very durable product. Misleading delivery: I bought it from seller Build (Fergusons) and their “entryway” delivery doesn’t necessary mean inside your house. They left mine at the end of the driveway in the rain inside a cardboard box. I was home! I contacted them and they said the driver doesn’t have to contact you on delivery and I could send it back. Not good Build. ... show more

  • Loving this so far!
We absolutely love this bath so far. My husband installed it himself and it was kind of a pain, but not too bad and so worth the work. No creaking, no shipping damage. Love the soaking depth, we got the special drain for it that adds more and honestly we probably didn’t even need it, it’s deep enough on its own and I never fill it all the way. Our kids love it too. It’s also great at holding heat. Not super heavy, my husband and I were able to carry it up 2 sets of stairs on our own. Super happy we decided to go with this for our new bathroom ... show more

  • Buyer beware if you are hoping to install tub doors
This tub is very comfortable, but if you are hoping to install frameless sliding glass doors on your bathtub, steer clear of this one. The flat area of the threshold is about 2 inches wide, too narrow for ANY sliding tub door that I have found. All call for 2 3/4 to 3 inches. And sadly, even the so called flat area of this tub is not level. American Standard really messed up on this one. I’d call it “defective” except that all the Cambridge tubs are this way, not just mine. I could find nothing in the specs for this tub that provided this vital information. That’s remiss on their part as I don’t think most people would assume that a tub these days would manufactured without the minimum threshold necessary to accommodate sliding doors. I have done an exhaustive look at this point and I can’t find another tub besides this one that has a threshold so narrow that it won’t accommodate sliding doors. American Standard has been ZERO help. They did tell me there were a couple of doors that did fit. One it seems is not available anywhere, and the other has heavy metal all around it, like the tub doors from the 80s. No thanks. I have spent hours looking and at this point I am probably stuck with a curtain. Hopefully this saves someone else time and money. ... show more
