  • Installing with 2 other switches
Model: Standalone Style: 3-Way Dimmer
DO YOU HAVE 3 LIGHT SWITCHES? No where will you find what Im about to tell you. I bought this for my basement family room with recessed lights. Identify which switch has (hot wire) line wire coming from breaker box this is your line and switch #1 and then identify the switch that goes to the lights this is your load switch also #3 switch. Identify travelers and which switch they go to. Watch YouTube videos on how to identify these wires. Now mine has 3 light switches, 1st is a 3 way at the power(line) side, 4 way in the middle, and a 3 way at the light side(load) this is the one you will replace with smart dimmer. Your house must have neutral wires which are usually white. Do not confuse the neutral wires with white travelers. YOU ALSO WILL NEED A SEPERATE POWER WIRE(LINE WIRE) AT THE LAST SWITCH. You may need to be creative on how to get a seperate power wire to that last switch. So what I did is the 1st switch was my power (line) side, it stays the same, now the middle switch is a 4 way switch you keep both travelers connected that go back to 1st switch(power/or line), BUT you DISCONNECT one of travelers going to the 3rd switch(load/lights) It doesn't matter which one you chose, Now the 3rd switch is where you install the smart dimmer. So cap off the traveler you disconnected from middle switch Connect all other wires except the one traveler you disconnected from the middle switch. You should have a ground wire, a neutral wire harness (white)shoved in the back of the box, the one traveler you chose that goes back to midfle switch the load wire that goes to the lights, and then the power line wire you created( I had another switch in my last switch box so i was able to piggyback the power from that to power smart dimmer). Now all 3 light switches work independently manually and with Alexa. ... show more

  • Good Product - What you need to know about 3 way installation
Model: Standalone Style: 3-Way Dimmer
Works as advertised but installation is tricky and the written instructions skip some key steps (probably bc they don't want to assume how your wiring is set up). While I am DIYer, I have ALOT of experience with electrical wiring, definitely more than most. 2 key things you need to know - 1) The switch must be the switch that is wired to the light (the instructions DO actually say this); 2) You will need to re-purpose one of your travelers on the wire between the switches and use it as the "Line" for the smart switch. You will only have one traveler from the first switch to the smart switch. This is not clear in the written instructions/steps but you will see it when you closely study the wiring diagram (at the bottom of the page) which is (as always) showing you end state of how the wiring should look when you are done. As a baseline, there are 3 different ways to wire a 3 way, mine looked like this (I believe this is pretty standard when power starts at the 1st switch) when I started: First switch (3 way) - 14/2 power (Line) attached to common terminal, 2 travelers from a 14/3 wire going to 2nd switch (red & black) attached to traveler switch terminals (neutrals (white) from "Line" and 14/3 capped together in box), at 2nd switch (3 way) - the 14/3 travelers were attached to traveler terminals on 3 way, 14/2 wire going to light with black connected to common terminal on switch, and white capped with white from 14/3 wire from 1st switch. to make this work, I took the black traveler wire and capped it to the "Line" wire in the first box. So the Line is attached to common terminal on 1st 3 way switch and the black traveler going to the smart switch. The first box now only has one traveler (red), the other traveler in 1st box has no wire (this is in the diagram). In the 2nd box (the Smart Switch), the red is connected to the brown wire, and the black traveler is connected to the "Line" wire on the smart switch. My configuration only used one smart switch, there is a configuration using 2 smart switches and I believe the set up is the same as what I described. If you are unable to baseline your existing 3 way light configuration or don't understand what I described, you should call an electrician. Alexa set up was a snap - opened Alexa app on my phone and it automatically discovered smart switch, I just had to rename it. Works great! Would have been 5 Stars if install instructions were a little better. Tried to call Amazon support for help - it was 15 minutes of my life I will not get back. Found more help in reviews/comments but decided to post my own review with my specific configuration. ... show more

  • Straight forward if you know what you're doing
Model: Standalone Style: Single Pole Switch
Take your time to understand what's going on. As it took me a minute to figure out my wiring situation. The instructions were clear otherwise while I worked on getting this installed. The only part that throws me off is that the switch does not toggle like a normal switch of this style. You just press it for on/off. There is no light to show it has power or is synced. Syncing with my Alexa devices was a breeze, as I didn't do anything. As soon as the switch had power, my phone had a push notification that it already was syncing. Only gripe is that the switch frame is thick. As shown in my picture it shares a box with a standard switch, and that needed a few shims to bring it out of the box some. Otherwise we were left with a bending switch plate (purchased seperatly). My OCD wanted to change the switch to match, but a new faceplate saved me a buck. I know I'm cheap. ... show more

  • Works great. Easy installation if you know what you're doing.
Model: Standalone Style: Single Pole Dimmer
I have several of these in my home that control the lights in my dining room and foyer. I absolutely love the Alexa integration which allows me to control them with my voice or with pre-programmed routines. You can easily turn lights on and off with your voice, as well as set the brightness (e.g. say "Alexa, foyer light 25%"). The installation process isn't difficult but if you're not familiar with electrical wiring (line, load, neutral, ground), you really should have an electrician or handyman do the installation for you. The housing is somewhat larger than that of a standard light switch, so the wiring in the gang box can get a little tight. Programming each switch is a breeze if you already have the Alexa app installed on your mobile device. The app should automatically detect the new switch and prompt you to configure it. If you have Alexa devices in your home and you're ready to automate your dimmer switches, this is the switch you need. Highly recommended. ... show more
