I have at least 2 putty knives. One I ground down the edges to prevent scratching, etc. I used putty knives for so many things from stripping paint, removing caulk, using as a wedge to loosen moulding, and sure, applying putty and scraping off the excess. But this is an EXQUISITE putty knife with only a 3/4" straight profile. The leading edge is NOT blade-like. The handle is weighty and generously sized, giving you a firm grip with a lot of control. These are not stainless steel, mind you, so they will rust if you expose them to water for too long. Either way, they work well. I apply drywall mud with these, as well as scrape imperfections on walls. For the price, I'd say they are very good.
