  • This is downgrade from the previous version.
Color: Red Orange Style: Bip S Pattern Name: Smartwatch
TL;DR The Bip S, second generation, is worse in almost all aspects than the previous Bip watch. I have both and I advise you to look elsewhere. Longer version: After owning Bip 2 for about 6 months. I think it's a solid 1 star. Not like "I wish I can put 0". No. A well-earned 1 star. Below is a comparison with the original Amazfit Bip (I own both) side by side. Before buying Bip S (let's call it Bip 2) I watched a few Youtube side-by-side comparisons. And let me tell you. I was absolutely devastated after receiving this "Upgrade". One notable thing. I first ordered Bip 2 from China, early 2020, it was not working properly. I convinced myself it was just bad luck. I bought another one of a different color from Amazon. which had all the same problems. OMG. Makes me quite more confident in my review. To shorten the story, let me just focus on the 'upgrades' that are claimed in the descriptions. * Display: more colors. It does seem to have more colors, but as a result, it is much dimmer. I might update this review with a picture. But for me the difference is huge. Indoors I CANT see Bip 2's reflective display; while on Bip 1 I can. It just not a compromise You want to make, believe me. The same goes under the direct sun. so increasing colors but dropping contrast is not cool. * battery life. claimed to be 40 days. Bip 1 even after 1.5 years easily lasted through 30 days With all the same activities bip 2 has at most 2 weeks of juice. Maybe if you turn the HR monitor off it will last 3? * water resistance. I was swimming in both and both are fine, So it's a draw for me. * improved connectivity. Don't even think about it. it constantly disconnects from my phone. It got so much worse. One function that I loved in Bip 1 is phone separation alarm. Amazfit REMOVED this option from the menu because they couldn't make it work(?). Same app. Bip 1 has it and Bip 2 doesn't..... This feature is golden! saved me from forgetting my phone on so many times. As I walk away, after 100 feet or so, the watch tells me to go back. It's amazing. And makes it really obvious that the manufacturer had issues is with the new Bluetooth tech. * Heart rate monitor. It looks so much bigger and brighter, it must be better, right? I wore both of them, used them during running, sleeping, etc. The old watch did well when I'm calm or asleep but had some issues when running. The new guy can't even do it well when I'm sitting, jumping from 60 to 100 for no reason. * Watch faces. They say that Bip 2 has "new customizable display options". And while I agree that it works, it's still awful. For old Bip there are 1000s of watch faces to choose from, Bip 2 only had a handful even after a year. It's been a year! there must be something good about Bip 2.. and there is: * OS. It's an improvement. I can control music from my watch. volume and navigation. And other nice things and improvements. Like smoother swipe actions. ... show more

  • Awesome battery life & outdoor visibility!
Best features of this watch (in my opinion) a re the battery life and the transflective screen. I used a FitBit Charge 3 before this watch, and there are pros and cons this new watch. PROS: Long battery life: I've had this watch for over 2 weeks on a single charge, and my battery is still at 30%, which is amazing. Also, the transflective screen is definitely an upgrade to the other watches I've had. This is the best screen for outdoor use that I have come across! Even in the brightest of sunlight, you can absolutely see everything on your screen (see second photo, which was taken at 1:00pm in full sun). CONS: The interface is definitely dated. I understand that this is a feature that is sacrificed in order to maintain great battery life (and is reflected in the price), but I wish it were a little more modern looking. Also, I'm a baker, and I use my smart watches for their timers --- the downside to this watch is that you can't run the timer while doing anything else. So I can't set a timer for 40 minutes and then exit to the main screen in the meantime. If you close the timer, the timer stops completely. Otherwise, this is a fabulous watch for the price point. I tried a Fossil Sport Gen 3 before this, and as beautiful as the Fossil was, it wasn't worth $115 since the battery only lasted 8 hours on low-use settings. Im happy to sacrifice "sleek" for longer battery and outdoor visibility. ... show more

  • Screen is not "always on", and the app doesn't work
The Bip S promised an always on screen, but the truth is you have to push a button (or sometimes touching the screen worked too, but not all the time) to activate the backlight every time you want to actually to be able to see the screen. I have a Pebble sitting right next to this Bip S, and the screen on the Pebble is perfectly readable, but on the Bip S, it's black until the backlight is activated. Supposedly both use a transflective screen, but I'm not convinced. The whole reason I bought this was to get the old-style LCD screen that you can see indoors and out. If I want to have to do something to turn on the screen, I could buy any number of other watches. Also, the screen is really pixelated and looks terrible when it's on. Nothing like the super crisp display on the Pebble that I expected. Meanwhile, I was trying to install the app. The watch shows a QR code on it. Scanning that brings me to a page that results in some JSON saying something like "Not found" (really professional). So, I scan the QR code in the manual, and install "Zepp (formerly Amazfit)" by Huami Inc (Contains ads). Oh, nice, ads. Well, I didn't have to worry, because I couldn't even get the app to work properly, it would just freeze up. I searched Google to see what I could do, and found out there is another app called "Mi Fit". That one I was able to sign up and sign in, but it wouldn't pair with the watch. I noticed yet another 2D code (non-QR) on the front of the box, but by this point I was fed up, and didn't really want to install the "Transparency app" in order to scan that code. The charging code is SUPER short. Anyone actually wanting this thing is going to need to buy a USB extension cable. Also, apparently "White Rock" is Amazfit language for "dirty gray". If you get this thing, go with the black. So, to sum up... garbage screen, garbage software, garbage accessories... total garbage! Returning! ... show more
