Came folded not on a roll as suggested but there were no issues. It looks realistic. The "grass" is made to lean or lay in one direction so if putting over a peaked roof, one side well lay flat as it should and the other side will flop over and stick up but this is not an issue for me. Other people may report they can see the black ribber through the grass but this is not the case for me. This product works well as described.

These mats are nice quality. It's built similar to artificial turf and the bottom is a similar material and structure. The 'grass blades' are made of a rather soft plastic. The straight strands are mixed with some squiggly strands to add loft to how the strands lay. The straw blades are not as thickly applied as artificial turf but they are longer and it's enough to give a nice appearance. This item seems to tolerate some getting walked on and various rough treatment, it's reasonably sturdy. When I took it out of the package, some stray broken off bits fell out but that seemed to be from the cut edges and no fresh material was shedding as far as I could tell. Light pulling on the grass blades did not cause any to fall out. The bottom looks well made and hopefully will hold up well but only time will tell for sure. One con was that the end was cut off sharply with no dangling strands to flop over the edge which does not look nice. I'll probably now have to cut the bottom shorter to allow undamaged grass strands to flop over. I was going to use this as a decorative weed blocking mat in a lightly planted area. I was hoping the dead grass look of this would blend with the rest of the dead grass in the area but also deter some of the new weeds from occasional irrigation through the year. However the gold tone of this mat is a bit too yellow and bright compared to actual dead grass so it sticks out too much visually when next to real dead grass. However it would look great for some of the other suggested uses like on a tiki hut. It is fairly realistic, a lot of people probably won't notice it's not real unless they touch it. One thing I also do for products like these is remove a sample and test for flammability. This product, like most plastic fake plants, will burn if a strong flame is put on it, it burns quickly with a low flame. However it does not seem prone to catch on fire just with a little bit of flame like a match or cigarette butt. Overall the listing description looks good except that some of the idea photos are clearly real grass, not this product. Also this product does not require any fluffing after you unroll it, it looks great right out of the box. My price was $66 for a 3 foot by 8 foot piece which is on par with better quality artificial turf. I think that makes it reasonable in value for the price, it is well constructed in a similar way and also is a niche item. However one con is that price point will be out of range for some people.

We decided on some home improvements in our backyard so that we can enjoy Spring & Summer. One of our biggest ideas is to build a cover for our porch area. This is such a nice roll of thatch, it looks great and is very dense so there are no open holes. I am also very happy to see how well the thatch is sewn to the backing, which is treated with latex to provide a bit of grip. I like this as it will also help to repel the rain. The thatch itself is amazingly convincing, it's described as PP & PE yarn, which is synthetic material that actually feels quite soft and has great movement. We hung this out to air, although it really didn't need it. It did have a slight chemical smell, but it was gone within a day. We also happened to get a huge storm that day so we left it out to see how it would hold up. It stayed put, the thatch blew neatly in the wind and since it's synthetic it had no problems dealing with the rain and didn't soak it up, which is nice because I was worried it would get water-logged and sag. Overall, I'm quite happy with this.

My daughter wanted to have a pool party with a tropical theme and this mat was perfect! I put it next to the small above-ground pool as a mat for the kids to step on before they get inside the pool. The long plastic strands that simulate straw are very comfortable and soft. Underneath there is a flexible plastic like material that is waterproof. When they were done with the pool party, I just draped this mat over a table to let it air out to dry. Then I rolled it back up and held it together with a bungee cord and stored it in the garage for next time. It is made out of a very good quality and sturdy material that I think will last a long time for many uses. It’s not a very cute and useful for any event that you have that you want to add a tropical touch to. It is reusable and a good value for the size and durability.

I live off grid so I make a lot of structures out of pallets and just things I can find for free.When I saw this roofing thatch, I thought it would be a great addition to add on top of some plastic panels I installed as roof on my shed. I secured the roll to the roof with construction adhesive and was very pleased with the overall appearance. It added a tropical vibe to an otherwise dinky looking structure. I'm also confident the thickness and quality of material will be durable enough to last through multiple weather scenarios.

I recently applied this to the roof of my tiki bar, and it has made a world of difference. It provides a much more authentic, tropical look compared to other synthetic options I’ve seen. The 6.7-inch pile height gives it a nice, full density that mimics real straw roofing quite well. Installation was straightforward, and it instantly transformed the aesthetic of the space. While the durability is still to be determined, as it hasn't been through a full season of weather yet. The initial quality and realism are impressive. Pros: Very realistic appearance. Good thickness and pile height. Easy to work with for custom sizing. Cons: Longevity under heavy sun/rain is still unknown

I am so pleased with how great this looks on our medieval playhouse that functions as housing for our ducks. Yes, you read that right. This is a very convincing copy of actual straw thatch. The ‘straw’ is quite long, which gives an appealing appearance and adds to the authenticity of the look. I can’t see any of the underlaying black unless I lift up the ‘straw’. I expect this to have good durability. It’s already been through a heavy rain with strong winds and came through just fine. Before putting this on the roof, I shook it out vigorously and there were almost no loose stray pieces of ‘straw’. If I ever need more artificial thatch, I will seek out the same source as I am so happy with the look and apparent durability of this!

For this type of item, I would think the two most important characteristics is 1) How densely packed the thatch is, and 2) How durable is it. The density is good- there are no bare or thin spots in the piece I ordered. The durability will take time to determine, but my cats have been using it as a scratching pad, and it has stood up well to their claws. As the photo of the backing shows, the thatch is securely fastened to the backing. I can confirm the dimensions are as advertised, with a little extra. I ordered 3' x 8', and I measured the backing at 37 1/2" x 96 3/4". The length of the thatch fibers is as described about 6 1/2". It came with no instructions, so you will need to know how to affix it properly to your roof.
