The bottom of the frame has a couple prongs to hold the plate against the frame which is good because my car only has screw holes on top. Lots of extra caps in my package. The enclosed tool works well. FWIW, I was cussing out the screws because they weren't fitting into my car and then I saw the bag has TWO KINDS of screws (as depicted in the product description). Tried the other kind and it went easy-peasy. Didn't really pay attention to whether the material is metal or plastic and can't attest to longevity but they sure look purty. Would def buy again even if they only last 6 months.

Why anyone would pay OEM prices for a similar, if not identical, frame I cannot fathom. I saved $57 dollars with this product and it does the exact same job as the OEM Subaru plate frame ... Yes, it's metal, not plastic, and it looks good. Plus, it's cheaply and easily replaced if it ever somehow gets damaged.
