  • Great tool for working drummers that need a few samples along
Size: 4-pad Style: Instrument Only
I've had this for around a year now. Use it live exclusively. So far, I've had ZERO problems. IT's been a very solid piece of gear. I downloaded all the Alesis sounds onto the card, but mostly I use the built in sounds. I don't need a ton of samples these days, but I do need things like handclap. I could get tamborine/cowbell setups, but our mixer is out of inputs, so I use these electronic versions. Nice that it has built in reverb! I've yet to use an external trigger, but I"m thinking about it. I could use a small pad, right honey? Pros: good clean sounds, small size fits anywhere. Pads are nice. Solid construction and dependable performance. . Cons: I'd like a brighter view screen for outdoor shows. Not a big con, but I thought I'd mention it. Once in a while, the SD card pops loose, and I have to push it back in. This happens when casing / uncasing it, User error, but if it were inset somehow where one couldn't accidentally hit it, it would be better. Wish list. Make the same item with two more bar shaped pads along the bottom with a couple of more inputs, and you could built an entire drum set with this. Would be cool if it came in a roundish shape. ... show more

  • Not bad but not great
Size: 4-pad Style: Instrument Only
After reading pretty mixed reviews on the 4 pad product I decided to purchase it and give it a go. As much as I’d love to buy the spd-sx from Roland my usage of a drum pad doesn’t justify the cost. I’ve used it a couple weeks now. I use it solely for live settings. Haven’t really had the line out buzz others have mentioned. I did hear it the first time I used the headphone jack to test the unit but haven’t heard it since. I run the pad with just mono out thru a direct box. The volume output is on the lower end. I have to max out the main output volume and the volume of the samples has to be at 10. For the softer samples it’s somewhat difficult to hear over the rest of the mix. All in all for the price it does what I need it too and didn’t cost $800. I also use a Roland snare trigger and run it thru the pad. It was pretty much plug and play. No double triggering and I use it on my normal snare head. It’s a good unit for the price point if you just need something for samples here and there. If I used it consistently for almost every song I’d probably skip this and save up for the spd-sx. ... show more

  • Newer software, faster loading than the Samplepad Pro
Size: 4-pad Style: Instrument Only
I bought this to replace my Samplepad Pro (8 Pad) which was giving me serious issues with crackling, and eventually went into a full boot error. This little guy does the trick considering I only used 4 pads on the Pro. Easy to load from an SD card, and this one allows layering between on-board sounds and card-loaded samples, which the Samplepad Pro does not. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to add some pads to their acoustic kit. ... show more

  • too good to be true
Size: 4-pad Style: Instrument Only
maybe the loading the samples is the best feature of this. But the Pad especially the small bars are not sensitive enough even at highest setting. The pads are too small for live playing, and might hit the controls when playing, basically the whole thing is just small. The built in sounds are also not good. I scrolled to every one of them, and never find any sound that is usable. ... show more

  • Garbage. do not buy. get a kat or boppad
Size: 4-pad Style: Instrument Only
I really wanted this to work well. I like the compact form factor and the look. I like the light up pads. but the the pads are awful and not responsive enough. the two small pads do not trigger consistantly at all. in fact they dont trigger most of the time unless you really pound on it. i was very disappointed in this. The pads just arent sensitive enough. not playable at all with hands and you really have to whack it hard with the sticks. no light drumming. I honestly dont know how a product like this makes it to market. I also tried out the Kat ktmp1 - and LOVE it. the form factor isnt quite as nice looking, but it WORKS. you can tap with fingers or sticks. the pads all work. theyre easy to set up. you get a few stages of velocity with hands or sticks. I also tried the Keith McMillen Boppad. which is also really great. it feels very well made and i like that its usb bus powered so is plug and play with an ipad or daw. its advertised as having more layers of velocity and cc 'zones' on each pad, but in practice it wasnt very precise and that feature isnt really that usable for me. I went with the kat mostly bc of price. do not buy the alesis. those other are real drum pads. the alesis is total garbage. returned. ... show more

  • EXCELLENT FEATURES FOR SUCH A LOW PRICE
Size: 8-pad Style: Instrument Only
The custom sampling is an awesome thing to have. You can literally add anything to your Drum Pad... Also comes pre-loaded with a good number of kits to work with. I like the Midi capability, and the smooth design. Down-side though is I might have noticed a bit of cross-talk between hitting one pad close to the other. I think this might be solvable with a firmware update, but overall, it's a really good device. ... show more

  • Great controller for DAW's at the low-ish price point.
Size: 8-pad Style: Instrument Only
For the price, this is a great sample pad. I purchased it mainly to use as a controller for Ableton Live which makes the user interface super appealing because of the ease in which you can change the midi note/velocity/sensitivity/etc. of each pad. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A STAND/MOUNT FOR THIS THE ROLAND PDS-10 WILL WORK!! The mounting bracket lines up perfectly BUT the Roland PDS-10 does NOT come with hardware. I brought the mounting bracket down to my local Lowes and sized it to M5 .80 phillips screws. The screws I got were 1" long so I spaced them with 4 flat washers per screw to prevent the screws from digging into the guts of the pad. As you'll find with any other review of this product there are some pretty bad crosstalk issues out of the box. Once I updated the firmware (CAN ONLY BE UPDATED VIA SD CARD) the crosstalk was minimized but still isn't gone. Other than that the build quality is pretty good. I can't comment on the internal sounds or uploading your own sounds because I haven't used the unit in that way. If you're looking for something to trigger sounds in a DAW like Ableton Live I would highly recommend this pad. ... show more
