I decided I was going back to playing after 30-something years I was away. I bought this because I didn't want to spend too much on something I don't know if I want to invest in, for that slight chance I'll drop this playing music thing again after six months. It's good for beginners to learn to read notes and play them. You get those other keyboard styles you can play with and mess around with, but if you want to control your legato or work on your transitioning to a crescendo, I would recommend spending the extra bucks. The keys are semi-weighted, and it makes it hard to change from P to f or mf. I find myself putting more pressure on the keys in order to make a sound. Also, I miss the lasting natural sound of the acoustic piano. Trying to get a good legato can sometimes be a challenge, but maybe it's just how those simple electronic keyboards sound. It's good for what you pay, I can practice with headphones (The sound quality is not "clean" without headphones, and it's ok with them), and it's easy to move around if I need to. You can add a peddle, and overall it's easy to use. I will be in the market for a better instrument soon, but in the overall price performance, it's not that bad. A small tip for attaching the keyboard to a stand with the straps. If the screw you get with the stand doesn't fit, try an M6 screw.

I played guitar years ago and have a smattering of musical theory, years later at 71, I've taken up the piano and this budget priced selection fits all my needs with more features than I'll prob use. Its a bit cumbersome for portability and if you put on quality headphones and compare them to the built in speakers you'll appreciate the acceptable but not great quality of the on board speakers and the "weighted" keys are light on full sensitivity compared to a real acoustic piano.....other than that as a first purchase to "Try out" your musical interest its a great buy for the money.

very nice beginner keyboard (Alesis Recital). purchased for my children (5 and 8 years old) who are new to music. well made, keys feel nice. Sound is excellent for us. appreciate the free trial lessons. would definitely recommend.

I no longer had to wait to use the piano practice rooms at my community college with this because I got to practice at home. Still learning some piano after 2 years. No longer taking lessons though. I can practice at 3 am if I wanted without waking members of my family that I live with up. I like practicing the same song in organ or synth or keyboard just for the heck of it. My pinao instructor liked that it had 88 simi-weighted keys. I like that it's easy to use & doesn't take up much space. my housemates like that it doesn't cause much noise & that it does not take up much space.

I have played this keyboard for 7 or 8 hours now. I played piano about 30 years ago and now have decided to pick it back up. I bought this only for the piano function. I live in a condo and do not have room for an acoustic piano. It is not convenient to go downstairs to practice on the baby grand that the HOA owns. I did not buy a more expensive keyboard because I do not need all the extra functions that you are paying for. I have played everything from a 100 year old Cable Nelson to a $350,000 Steinway Concert Grand. My piano teacher had a Yamaha upright grand. I would compare the sound of this to a Yamaha or Baldwin studio upright. It does not have the rich, deep sound of a grand piano. However, it sounds extremely good. I would compare the touch to my piano teachers Yamaha upright. Very close to the Steinway grand. One of the bad reviews compared it to a Fisher Price toy piano. She also complained that the keys did not return slowly, instead of coming back up with your finger. Anyone who knows a piano, knows that if the keys are slow to come back up, the piano is in serious need of repair. The sound is fine for playing in your home. If you are playing in an auditorium, it can be hooked to an amplifier. I do not address any of the other functions but cause they are useless to me. For me, This is a perfect substitute for an acoustic piano. Nothing more, nothing less. It is a piano that a beginner can start on because it is affordable, but it plays as well as keyboards costing many times more. Update: I have now played additional hours and want to revise my statements about the touch. It is not equivalent to a acoustic piano. Touch sensitivity can be set to off, soft, medium, and hard. Out of the box it is set to off. At that setting the key plays about half way down. Speed and pressure are irrelevant. Hit it fast or slow, hard or soft, it does not alter the sound. Set to soft, the key responds to touch but will not respond to very light, fast touch. So you can not trill lightly. They key has to come almost all the way to to play again. Same with medium. No fast trilling. The hard setting is the same. If you do not completely release the key, it will skip. Since I have no interest in playing classical music, this keyboard will work to,learn on. If you intend to play classical, then spend the money for a better piano. Update: 2/2023 Four months after buy this keyboard I bought a new Yamaha U1. I put the keyboard back in its box and put it in a closet. In December 2022 I got it out to take with me on a two month vacation to Florida so I would have something to keep practicing on. The first time I used it, after playing an acoustic piano exclusively for a year I was dismayed by the sound and touch. It sounded cheap compared to the Yamaha, and the touch did not compare at all. Like I said in the original part of my post, it will not do well for classical music. I changed my focus to classical, specifically Beethoven, about 6 months ago. I can not produce much feeling from this keyboard. Fur Elise sounds flat and mechanical. As doesMoonlight Sonata, mvt.1. I will give it too my six year old nephew and buy a Yamaha keyboard.
