  • Dishonest warranty
Color: White Size: Allergies + Odor + Smoke Pattern Name: Purifier
I'm sure it's a good product, but the warranty is extrodonarily deceptive. Nowhere in the product description on this site does it say that in order to get the lifetime warranty that I need to enrole in Allen's filter renewal plan. Completely dishonest and they should be ashamed. I'll probably return it I'm that frustrated. ... show more

  • Works great on marijuana smoke! (plus lots of other stuff)
Color: Espresso Size: Allergies + Odor + Smoke Pattern Name: Purifier
I'll get to why I knocked a star off my review in a minute (check out my update at the bottom, back to 5 stars). Just know, this thing is amazing! I wouldn't call it a great value, but it's worth every single penny. We have 4 dogs in a single story open design of about 1250 square feet. I instantly noticed a huge improvement in air quality within a short time after turning it on! The auto function works amazingly well. It will be sitting there on it's lowest fan speed, having successfully cleaned the air all day/night. The little blue circle indicator light tells you your air is currently at it's cleanest. I'll light up a joint about 20' from the purifier and within a minute or so I'll notice the fan speed crank up to its fullest! (It's still super quiet though, even on its highest you can't hear it with a TV on) Red indicator light! Then purple! It tells me right away that my air has been polluted and it's working to fix it. Within 20 or 30 minutes, the whole house is completely smoke and scent free! It's perfect for all you well-to-do stoners such as myself. You make good money, you have nice things, you're a grown up now! You don't want other adults coming over to your marijuana smoke filled house. Especially all your friends with kids. Or maybe you have kids? What kind of an example are you setting!? Opening the windows on a nice day only does so much. And if you have cold winters and can't open the windows, what then? You buy this thing ya dummy. All those problems will be solved. I knocked off a star because my wife is making me return it. She doesn't like how it looks. I don't think it's terrible. It's the great air purifier paradox: In order for it to work well it's needs to be out in the open, but to be out in the open it needs to not look stupid. There's a lot of air purifiers that I passed over based on looks alone. This one I was on the fence about, the color choice of the panel helped push me over. I'm going to add a picture to this review. If you agree with me and think it's looks not that terrible, leave me a comment! Or if you're wrong and agree with my wife's decision to return it, please don't let me know. Anyway, you can turn off the panel lights by pressing the big colorful button in the middle while it's running. That's obviously nice if you're gonna use this in a bedroom. It'd be nice if you could turn the panel lights on and off without having to turn the entire unit off. Seems like an unnecessary power cycle just to adjust the lights. But hey, it's got a lifetime warranty so who cares if it breaks from excessive power cycles! Long story longer - I'm going to have a hard time replacing this with something else, especially with how well it works. The bar is set REALLY high for cleaning the air in my house now after owning this thing for only a few days. I'm addicted to the fresh air. I work from home and spend a lot of time here. It feels really nice. I will caveat this entire review and say this is the first air purifier I've ever owned. Maybe they all do pretty well? Most of the major players have good reviews. I think it comes down to aesthetics when you spend this much. We don't have a ton of space in our house, so this thing has to sit right out in the open for everyone to wonder and ask what it is. It has to look good. I'll admit that it's not the sexiest. Unfortunately, function over form is losing this battle to form over function this time. P.S. - what maniac thought purple was the right color to indicate your air quality is at its worse!? Why would red indicate the second worst air quality?? Is there some standardized air pollution color rating system that I'm just not aware of? ****Update 2 weeks in, back to a 5 star review**** OK, we tried to replace this unit with a different, more aesthetically pleasing purifier. We tried the Coway AirMega 400. It looks great, covers a similar square footage, and has even better features than this Alen 75i unit....but it flat out just didn't work as well. It was also MUCH louder. With this Alen 75i unit in the same exact position as the Coway AirMega, the air was noticeably cleaner and smell free. Also, on it's loudest setting the 75i is hardly noticeable with a TV on. The Coway AirMega was at least 4 or 5x louder on it's loudest setting...to the point where you didn't want to run it on it's highest setting unless you weren't home. We tried this unit in a few different positions around the house, some out of the way where it didn't work as well, and now in it's new spot (different from the pictures I posted) and it's seriously great! My wife isn't thrilled with the spot we landed on, but it works really well and isn't as bad as she once thought. Seems that function over form has come through to win in the end! ... show more

  • Complete waste of money.
Color: White Size: Allergies + Odor + Smoke Pattern Name: Purifier
I've had this unit since Dec 23, 2019 and I have noticed zero change in the air quality of my medium sized room. For starters this expensive unit has no remote. I mean, come on. It's 2020 and even my $29 window fan came with a remote. Ok, fine. How about WiFi to connect an app? Nope. So why is there a WiFi symbol on the control panel? Am I missing something? I searched the app store and could not find anything. I had a cheap Honeywell charcoal filter unit and it immediately made the air seem fresher. With this unit I cannot tell any difference at all. I opted for the "smoke" filterer and I can still smell cigarette smoke from passerby on the street even though I have this unit in the front of the house near the window. There seems to be a flaw with the LED light and "auto" mode function. When I set the unit to "auto" and then want to turn of the bright control panel lights, the unit appears to disengage the auto mode when the lights off button is pressed. So you can't have this unit in auto without the bright control panel lit. In the end, for the price, I"m extremely disappointed in this product Its basically an $800 fan. Don't believe all these other glowing reviews. ... show more

  • Very Slow to Clean 885 SF IF It Cleans Air Every Half Hour in 1300 SF Room.
Color: White Size: Allergies + Odor + Smoke Pattern Name: Purifier
Purchased this product in Feb/Mar 2021. It took nearly one week for it to change from hoovering between poor (purple) to average (orange) air quality and move up to the excellent (blue) to above average (green) air quality. The device sits in an open area in an 825 SF room and is advertised to clean the air in a 1300 SF room once every 30 minutes. Yet, buried in the fine print is that it may take at least 40 hours after first plugging in the device to clean the air and keep it ranging in the blue/green air quality ranges. After that first week, it has stayed in the blue/green air quality ranges and only changed to purple, red, or orange when the back door was left open. Even then, it moved back up to Blue/Green air quality within just a few minutes of closing the door. It has been operating that way for about 10 months. Then about 3 to 4 weeks ago, the light went to purple - worst air quality indicator light - and has stayed there. I've seen the red light once and I've seen the orange light twice in the past 3 to 4 weeks, otherwise, it's been on the poorest air quality (purple) the remainder of the time. UPDATED JANUARY 21, 2022: Friday night, I called Alen. Their offices were closed, but I was able to get CS support via an online chat. That will be the last time I ever do that. I've been in contact with CS on the phone multiple times since purchasing both my Alen air purifiers, and over the phone, I've always had the most helpful and courteous support representatives. My experience with online chat left me more than disgruntled. I even downgraded my review from 4 stars to 1 star and posted the ridiculous chat session where the CS rep told me to calm down or she was going to disconnect the chat session. How crazy is that since I was not even upset and had said nothing to warrant that kind of abuse? The rep was unclear, giving confusing instructions, constantly chiming in while reading my posts in real time and not giving me a chance to read her posts or finish what I was typing before chiming/chirping in. It was like having a phone conversation with someone who keeps talking over the top of what you are saying, interrupting you when you try to get a word in edgewise, etc. Then they abruptly get angry with you and tell you to be quiet and listen. Anyway, I posted the chat session on their FB page and called and left a message on their phone system. The chat session was deleted from their FB page, but I did get a message left on my voicemail from the CS rep on Saturday who was so arrogant, unclear, and angry the previous night. She apologized, but I couldn't tell if it was out of fear or because she was sincerely sorry for her rudeness. Monday rolls around, and I still needed to get my second device registered online and under the lifetime warranty system. I spoke with a CS rep who was as nice and helpful as she could be. I was unable to complete the task due to being on my phone, but I called back when I was able to get to my computer and talked to another CS rep who was also as helpful, kind and courteous as could be on the phone. Then I got a call later in the day from the post I had made to their FB page and the voice message I had left on their phone. It was from Management. They apologized profusely for the incident and talked to me for about 30 minutes, or longer. So, after being frustrated with 1 CS rep over the course of nearly a year, I have decided to stay away from online chatting for CS support and stick to the phone during normal operating hours. The problem with my device is now believed to be due to the extremely cold, harsh Winter weather, the furnace plowing hot air with dust from the ductwork constantly and the humidifier I had setting in the opposite end of the room because all the hot air blowing with all the dust from our furnace was causing the room to be too dry. I did take the unit into the small bathroom and turn it on with the door closed. The air was clean and back up to blue status in about 2 hours. Then it got really cold again - below freezing into single digits - the heat was turned up higher and the furnace was blowing through the warm air almost constantly. The light has since changed and is hoovering between purple and orange again. The point is that as long as the lights fluctuate on the device and do not stay the same color without ever changing for a 2 week period, there is probably something like a humidifier or dust blowing out of the HVAC duct work due to having the heat running higher. We shall see..... I'm now registered for both devices and am on the lifetime warranty plan with filters to be delivered every 12 to 15 months. Let's hope the warranty holds up in case this thing does stop working properly. ... show more
