I liked this air purifier in theory but it was quite expensive and turned out to be defective. Alen's return/replacement guarantee put me at ease. However, after six months of use, the air purifier just stopped working and wouldn't turn on at all. I emailed, called and attempted to chat Alen but received no response except for a canned email asking me to call in to "begin the replacement process". When i called in i was on hold as "first caller in line" for over 30 minutes. DO NOT BUY! This product is DEFECTIVE and they WILL NOT REPLACE IT even though they have a WARRANTY. ... show more

The unit arrived 10 days ago and has been running smoothly and quietly,. It seems to cover quite well the entire living room area of about 800 sf. Then I noticed that the more recent Allen models have designations for bedroom, living room, or kitchen which is the model I bought. I held off my review until I received the clarification from the maker that each model can be used in any room in the house, and that the designation is just a marketing ploy. If it is ploy, I am not sure it is a clever one. Instead of being lured to buy different units for different rooms, I was tempted to return the one I bought thinking that the unit is not designed for the purpose intended. I bought this 3/27/19. I Intentionally waited to give it a review because I wanted to see it if worked. I got this for my basement that always has a musty oder to it and I have severe allergies! I love it. Not only is the smell gone in my basement but Im breathing better. The indicator on the unit that tells you what the air quality is my favorite part, bc it lets me know its working. This ordered was canceled due to misunderstanding about Amazon's payment plan, but I did purchase it anyway from the vendor itself on sale for about $50 less. The purifier though expensive is top notch. If you buy this I would recommend to also buy the pre-filters which now sell on the vendors site. To power it off is a bit strange. You have to press the power off button twice. They do this because some people don't like the light shining when sleeping so it's like a toggle between the function buttons having light or no light. The replacement filters are expensive, but I run this all day greatly improving my sinuses. It is nice and quiet, and looks nice anywhere you place it in your home. ... show more

    • Quiet and good at first, loud and unstable sensor after only a few months

When I first got this in Nov 2019 it was incredibly quiet. I had it in my bedroom and was able toeave it on auto and sleep well. After about a month and a half (about early Feb) the noise increased, even if I manually set it on the lowest fan setting to a point it was too loud to leave in my bedroom. I moved it to the living room and put it back on auto. It was definitely louder but tolerable in the bigger room, and it would rotate from green air quality to yellow when I would cook in the nearby kitchen and increased the fan to clear any kitchen odors or particles then went back to low and green. Seemed to still be doing its job. After another month (early March) it decided that no matter the time of day or what is going on that the air quality is red and it must run on high, which now sounds like a small rc plane running in my living room. I wondered, did my air quality change that drastically when I have done nothing different? I changed my furnace filter and no change in the Alen so I have a different brand air purifier in my bedroom that I moved to the living room to see if it thought the same. It did not. Other brand runs on low and says the air quality is good except when cooking. It makes me think there is something with the sensor or filter on the Alen so I changed the filter (even though the filter says it is still fine) and used canned air to clear any dust. Same high noise and always will run on high when in auto. I have had to just manually set the fan speed to low and resign myself to having a medium level hum in that corner of the room. It annoys me enough that I have opted for a different brand air purifier for the second bedroom instead of another Alen, which is a shame as this one was so much quieter in the beginning and I like the design and single filter system much better. I couldn't justify the higher cost of the Alen if it was going to get so much louder after a couple months and then have something go wonky with the sensor after a couple more. Yes, I am still using it, but I can't honestly recommend it based on these issues. ... show more
