This phone arrived in new condition and ran the older software of the Google system of programs. After running some lengthy updates, the system was able to run the modern version of the Google Play Store, which was necessary to access any applications linked to my Google Account. I can attest that this phone runs as expected, once all of the Google Play updates and individual application updates were installed. I have used the camera of this phone to record an event from a distance of about 50 feet, during the Night. The persons were visible, but this phone's camera is incapable of zooming close, so detailed features were not possible to capture, from the distance under that specific lighting. It did, however, function as expected, with the camera operating in a similar manner to other phones of the same quality. I had no trouble accessing the cell service associated with my previous T-Mobile Network phone, once I installed the SIM card from the old phone to this one. This allowed me to access my cell service without the need to contact my cell phone provider. I can send/receive text messages and make/receive phone calls without difficulty. The phone has adequate processing speed to utilize Public Wi-Fi hotspots without difficulty. I needed a second phone, with mid range specs to test my app with and answer incoming calls and texts for my company from customers and clients. I wasnt expecting much. Its got a gig of RAM and 16 gb of storage. It's compatible with TextNow and that's what I needed. Battery life is solid. Performance isnt the best but again, this isnt my Samsung Galaxy and I expected that. The camera isnt good either, except for posting pictures of goods to sell online for stuff like Amazon or Ebay. This little Alcatel delivers, and lets me be a full time Florida man property owner and business owner any time anywhere. Having 2 phones in public sure makes me feel cool too. ... show more

    • A Bad Cheap Phone

I am a connoisseur of cheap, unlocked cell phones. It has been years since I have had a phone plan tethered to a specific device. I say this upfront to make clear to everyone reading that I know what a good cheap phone looks like, feels like, how it operates. This is not a good cheap phone. I have used the cheap versions of Nokia, Motorola, and Blu to varying degrees of satisfaction in the past, and, depending on your budget, would recommend each of those brands to this one. What is specifically wrong with this device? For one, it is sensitive and slow. These two defects go together frequently. You will make a phone call, your ear will hit an app on the screen, and you will be moments away from accidentally ordering an Uber to your location. Or you will call up Google Maps, it will take eons to load, and you will accidentally hit the wrong location on the sensitive screen, which will take another few eons to clear away to restart your search proper. I have more bad things to say about this phone, but I will not belabor the point. For cheapest of the cheap, Blu is better. If you can scrounge a bit more money together, the unlocked Nokias and Motorolas are better. I cannot speak to any other brand, but I would guess they are all better than the Alcatel. Do not purchase unless you want constant headaches. Update (October 2022): After five months of struggling with this phone, I have finally called it quits and ordered a different unlocked brand. It became impossible to have phone conversations of any length, because the oversensitive touch screen would start activating all of the apps while on your call, start recording the call, turn down the volume, or, in one frustrating but hilarious instance, all of these things at once. Item arrived on time, I love the size & it’s reasonably priced for a dual sim unlocked phone. However, I noticed that the global time feature does not work & the battery drains fast, so it might be a good idea to include an extra battery in your purchase or hopefully the manufacturer will consider selling it w/ a spare battery. Calls kept going to voicemail instead of ringing. I returned the phone for replacement of the same. If the replacement has the same defects, then I will have to return it & look for another unlocked dual sim smartphone & change my rating. I’m hoping that it’s just the one I got that’s defective. Replacement arrived much earlier than originally stated. The global time on the replacement works this time, however, it still keeps on going to Voicemail. If I'm unable to make this ring w/ the help of IT support, this phone is going back again bec. it's important not to miss a call especially when it's important. ... show more
