I bought FOUR cards for my wife and kids and NONE of the cards work at the neighborhood Tom Thumb stores. I went with my wife and son and saw first hand that these cards have ZERO value at the store.     • There's no "activation". Toll-free phone number provides balance of delivered card.

To check balance on phone with toll-free number (which is NOT printed on card, just the "disposable"outer sleeve), you will have to use the assigned PIN on back of card, under a scratch-off, and a card# hidden by the outer packaging So you WILL have to remove card from packing envelope to access the true card # and 4-digit PIN. Big shock: once scratched off, the PIN stays displayed on the card, conveniently labeled "PIN". And you can't change it. So never load the card with more $$ than you're willing to lose if card goes missing. (Max load is $200, and can be replenished at the grocery store cashier.)
