Use this instead of your card. Trust me — they take the money instantly, and it won’t get accidentally refunded. Make gift cards your main payment method in settings before you buy, or you’ll run into issues if your card gets frozen. Use one‑time reloads, not auto‑reload, and put the exact amount the item costs — plus tax — on your balance. That way, you won’t have to worry about the order being canceled because the payment didn’t go through, and if you manually cancel, you get an instant refund with no waiting period. Buying through the mobile app is easier when using gift cards than on the website. One of the worst Amazon "services"

This was the first time I was *re-loading* an existing Amazon gift card... and the experience was horrible. The only other time I converted from a Visa Gift to Amazon gift card was smooth and I had no problem. But that was probably because I was getting an Amazon gift card for the first time using my Visa Gift card. Here's the story.... I won a $100 Visa Gift card at work at a contest. Since that had an expiration date and Amazon cards do not, I wanted to put that card into Amazon as a gift card. I was able to do that pretty easily and the Visa Gift card showed up in my wallet. Since I had a purchase I wanted to make (for $105) I paid for the product using the Visa gift card that was already in my wallet thinking that the first $100 would come out of the visa gift card and the balance $5 would come out of my default payment of the Credit Card that I have on file. That order failed after 10 minutes and it said that I had to change my payment method. Doing research, I found that Amazon does not let you split payments over multiple cards. The only time you can do that is if you have a CC AND an Amazon Gift Card. So, this started my frustrating experience. I went into my Account-->Wallet-->Amazon Gift Card, clicked on the "Reload Your Balance" button, typed the amount of $100 and chose the Visa gift card that I had $100 on to pay for the "reload". This process was supposed to take a max of 5 minutes. But this was still in a "processing" status even after 120 minutes. I thought that the fact that I had already used this Visa card for my product purchase earlier (that had failed) was somehow causing the issue. So, I went and canceled my order. By this time, I had already gone past the next day delivery deadline for a product that I urgently wanted. Grrr.... An hour later (after a total of 3 hours), my transfer from my Visa gift card to my Amazon gift card failed with no reason given. Looking at the various reviews for the Amazon Gift Card gave me some consolation that I wasn't the only one who had issues with this service. Wish I had seen the reviews before. But never in a million years did I think that a such a common service that Amazon has would have such a bad user experience. (shrug) I tried loading my Amazon gift card with the same Visa gift card for the full $100 amount for the second time. 2 hours later, the transaction failed again with no details. After reading the many insights on what was happening, here in the review section, I was going to transfer only $90. But was hesitant because chances were that I would end up not being to transfer the remaining balance for some God-knows-what reason. So, decided to try one last time with the full amount as suggested by another user. Third time's the charm I guess. 3rd attempt and approximately 2 hours later, my $100 was in my Amazon gift card amount. What a POS process! Something that should have taken mere seconds (like when you pay for a product using a Credit Card) took over 6 hours of "processing" and made me waste almost 3 hours of time in attempting to transfer/researching/reviewing stuff. This review deserves 0.5 stars at best, but 1 is the minimum I can give. ... show more
