  • Top notch replacement or upgrade for OE - review by a professional
Color: Black Housing
Full disclosure: I am a qualified automotive professional and formerly certified by Daimler-Chrysler to work on these vehicles. When they say professional installation recommended? Shadetrees, take the advice. You're just going to break it or hurt yourselves. This is NOT an easy job. That said, these assemblies are absolutely fantastic. No Chinesium here, despite the relatively unknown name. Akkon's parts are made in Taiwan alongside names you've heard of. The projector assembly is all metal and very well constructed. The plastic is injection molded with zero flashing, meaning these are made with care and well maintained tooling. From the second you open the box they exude 'quality.' Now don't take this to mean they're absolutely perfect - I'd personally make some changes to the wiring harness, but that's because I'm a perfectionist. It's plug and play, and it's no more difficult than the OE harness. (Okay, a little more difficult, due to a better weather seal. Offset by a much easier release catch.) If you're looking for a low cost replacement that sacrifices nothing, THESE are the parts you want. Also available in chrome to match the factory! These work great with LEDs as well. Very clean cutoff on the projectors and high reflectivity to give a good beam pattern. While the factory does what they can, you WILL need an aiming board. Never drive at night without aiming the headlights. Period. High beam is OE-style open reflector, which also works AMAZING with LEDs. The black seems to reduce some of the 'bounce' without compromising intensity at all. Bulb installation is 'challenging.' The projector is very tight to ensure a good seal with O-rings, so a dab of petroleum jelly will help ease things and improve seal. High beam is easy as pie but a bit tight as well - that's what you want. The 3157 (front turn signal) is difficult owing to orientation (wires toward inside) but can be done easily enough. The W5W/T10 (outer reflector and signal) is impossible without removing the assembly. Professionals, read on. Shadetrees, bring these to a professional. So first of all, it's a Grand Cherokee. We already know the deal here: you're peeling the front. You can't get around it, it's absolutely necessary, no you cannot get at it from underneath. Just bite the bullet. If you go one side at a time, you don't have to remove fully, so at least there's that. (Wear gloves. Sharp edges abound.) You MUST rearrange the harness! It'll come secured by a metal tab and screw with the FCM connector around the boot area for the low beam. Re-use that tab to secure the other wires, as they have a major body pinch risk otherwise. OE harness has gaff and less slack, so it's very non-optional. Takes about a minute to make it nice and clean, and preemptively solves a rattle complaint. Be careful of the noise pads on the bottom of these - they like to peel off because of the shape of the molding. Just push it back on and be careful positioning it. Positioning is easier than OE, but mostly due to newer ABS that still has flex in it. But it's still an absolute nightmare. It's not their fault, it's Daimler-Chrysler's. However, they line up nicely - required ZERO 'wiggling' to get bolts to go in without cutting plastic. But seriously, do the W5W/T10 replacement first if you're going to, because you are NEVER getting at it again. It does NOT have the 'long tube' like OE, so it is absolutely impossible to get at. Test early and test OFTEN or you will live to regret it very quickly. LEDs work great in these, and the factory aim was dead on, but they still require an aiming board. Mine were a smidge off (1/8" uneven at 20') because of handling. The projector adjuster is nearly impossible to move using the finger-turner, but it has a star bolt. It's VERY stiff, so I'm sure it'll hold adjustment. The factory HID is auto-leveling, so you'll have to wing it a bit. These are DOT as well! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to a customer (and I AM recommending these to customers.) Shouldn't be a problem with insurance claims either, but they are strictly for the halogen setup NOT the HID setup. (Halogen is 6 pin, HID is 12 pin auto-leveling.) The connectors are better than OE, but you'll need two hands due to a much tighter weather seal. Probably keep new body anchors on hand for the FCM side connector, because you'll break it getting the OE out. If you're installing LEDs, they MUST have a load resistor. Size, style, and wiring depends. If you pair incandescent 3157's with LED T10's everything will LOOK fine as you test it, and then the FCM will tag out the LED T10's on the road test or they'll pop. (It's a Jeep thing.) And it won't reset easy. Fit and finish when installed is as good as stock, arguably better in some regards. Just remember these years were ALWAYS weird, and bear in mind my front bumper cover in the photos has existing damage so it doesn't sit quite correctly right now. TL, DR: these are great assemblies, worth every penny. But heed the 'PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION RECOMMENDED warning. ... show more

  • Very Satisfied With Purchase
Color: Black Housing
These headlights look great and really updated the look on my 09 Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially looks good with a black jeep. I couldn’t wait to throw those ugly factory headlights away. Installing them is not hard at all. I will say be VERY careful when clipping your bulbs in because those little plastic tabs are fragile, I did snap one off but it still worked. The main thing to remember when installing is to watch a couple of YouTube videos first, take your time, make sure you have the correct tools and don’t lose the screws. It took me an hour to do it by myself. You have to remove the grill and lower the bumper. ... show more

  • Great for the price
Color: Black Housing
I'm not sure why the "professional" mechanic believes you need a professional to install these. It's pretty straight forward. If you have any mechanical prowess you'll be fine. If not, get a friend to help. You do need to drop the bumper, again, not hard, but get help if needed. Quality isn't as good as OEM. Mounting points are noticeably thinner, but they don't move when secured. They do have a DOT number. The aim adjuster is easy to use. The adjuster is the actual torx screw, not the plastic piece that surrounds it. Once you see it you'll understand. I think it took a reverse T6. Over all, Great for the price for a black OE "style" headlight. ... show more

  • Cool but...
Color: Black Housing
These are very nice. But you will most definitely a Cambis decoder as mine are flickering. I will update post once I install them. A bit over priced but they look waaaaay better that the factory ones. I also replaced the tail lights. I have a 2010 Jeep WK limited 5.7L V8.
