  • Do I expect too much with newer generations of tubes?
Style: 1-2 Rider
I am a lifetime boater and have been pulling tube since the days of the giant yellow tubes that had a harness and not a cover and the original O'Briens. Even with 30+ years of experience I just can't get this generation of Airheads to last. I pull two of the blue 1-2 rider tubes at a time, putting about 80-100 hours a season on the tubes. I am currently patching two holes in one of the tubes I purchased in June. Both holes are at the back of the tube, just under the fins that keep the rider neatly on the tube. I do not store them in the sun, we don't allow anyone on them while they are out of the water, and we do not deflate and re-inflate with use. We don't allow them to be around sand either. They are used every weekend, but maybe that is too heavy for this generation of tubes? My O'Brien's last for years, but I'm struggling with these. The tube itself is comfortable for the rider and has neoprene in the right places. The rider has to know to pull up on the tube/sit back on their knees to keep the tube from submarining when taking off or towing at low speeds, but that is easy. They are fairly easy to get outside of the wake and whip around, but the classic O'Brien Le Tube moves around more easily if comparing the two. I realize the two tubes are different, but for those of us who pulled the classic O'briens back in the day it is a useful reference. The tubes are not unruly to carry and store well as well because of the low profile. The canvas holds up - we don't have any torn handles or rips when the tubes fail because of holes - it is always the inflatable portion. For adults, these are more difficult than the O'Brien Le Tubes to stay on when ripping around a turn at a high speed. I also feel they drag a lot more and kind of "catch" the water when you are trying to hustle across the wake. They do get good air when jumping the wake or hit a nice set of rollers. The low profile at the back coupled with the handles make it super easy for any rider to get back on the tube. The old school O'briens sit very high and are difficult for some riders to climb back on. I'm likely going to order a couple HO tubes and see how those hold up for the balance of this season. I'm running a HO EX03 chariot style with great success. I miss the days of getting many, many seasons out of a tube! Just need to reset expectations I suppose. Update: I put about 20 more hours on the second tube that didn't have holes at the time of the 1st review and am now patching it as well. Same place on this second tube. It's a problem because the kids prefer these tubes over many others but they just don't last with heavy use. Last update. Purchased a third one and it lasted 15 hours before the seam split. Pic is attached. I have never seen anything like this over the years. The company really misses the mark on these. My HO, my 16 year old classic O'Brien Le Tubes, and the new O'Brien screamers are all still killing it. ... show more

  • Good room and durable
Style: G-force 1-3 Rider/Booster Ball Bundle
Probably only need the rope bullet float if u don’t have ski pole. It just puts spray in their eyes if u can do without it.

  • This works well for 3
Style: 1-3 Rider
It will submarine if you're not careful but they all do without that fancy ball think in the middle. My 3 boys fit on there and it pretty sturdy... I really must whip things around to toss them off...

  • 2 Seasons, Still Works Great
Style: 1-3 Rider
Update 9 June 2014: It's season 3 for this tube and it's been working great. I raised my rating to 5 stars as we've had no problems once we figured out how to position to avoid submarining and we've had a ton of fun. I would buy this tube again. UPDATE 6 August, 2012: Have used this tube several more days for multiple hours each time. All my previous comments still apply. We're having a blast with this tube. Original Review: I bought this tube last week and used it last weekend. So, disclaimer... I've only used it a couple of days on a lake. I would give this tube 5 stars if it didn't submarine a few times. Yes, I found that this tube would occasionally submarine if the people on it were not positioned well. But, with just a few such incidents, we used this tube for hours over two days and had great success. We had kids as small as 75 lbs up to 150 lbs. and it worked well 95% of our runs. I find the exterior skin to be a good quality, thick nylon, and the inner bladder appears to be a good quality, thick, rubberized plastic. Sizing is a lot like rafts. That is, they say it holds 3 persons, but that's true only if they're small or medium sized. For me, three kids worked as did two larger kids (teenagers roughly equivalent to adults). You'd have a tough time using this tube with three adults. If you want to haul a large number of and/or larger people, look at bigger tubes. This one is, from what I've seen, a medium-sized tube. Side note: Amazon suggested various tow ropes to purchase with my tube. I did buy the Kwik Tek Airhead 4 Rider Tube Rope ( Kwik Tek Airhead 4 Rider Tube Rope ). Amazon also suggested I buy some additional connection components. I did not need these. My boat has a quick connect hook and this tube has a quick connect. The rope is looped at both ends and connected to the boat and tube directly. No need for additional connecting components. Conclusion: After one use I am pleased. I would recommend this tube to others. I would buy it again. I will be using this tube several times more this summer, so if you see no update to this review, then I'm still happy and my conclusions are still valid. ... show more

  • 4 person tube
Style: 1-4 Rider
Other tubes claim to be 4 person tubes, but this one is a little wider and can more easily accommodate 4 people.

Durability and stability plus the grandkids love it. They have so much fun with one attached to their boat. They now want 2!

  • Good tube but not great.
Style: 1-3 Rider
It is good tube not great The front end sinks allot when you take off. This probably make tube not last as long. The build quality is questionable for being one most expensive tubes out there. Seemed good but bought a cheaper three man sitting tube and it build quality looks much better than this tube and cost $125 less than their three man tube. ... show more

  • Had a blast!
Style: 1-3 Rider
We used this only once this season since we bought it so late. It was easy to inflate, has extra bumpers on the side you can wrap your leg around for extra grip. We used it for hours with max of roughly 425lbs and had no issues. If you whip with this tube someone is falling off!
