    • Needs Careful Considerations; Operates Well with Practice

We've learned a couple things about this product since purchasing. First, it only operates within 1-3" of the surface of the water. That means for long-term operation it either needs to be used in a very large body of water and positioned on a raised pedistal, or it needs to float, so that as the water gets vaporized and decreases the mister stays at an appropriate distance to the surface. I've been using these misters as an ultrasonic humidifier in our apartment; the mister sits in a 5-gallon bucket of water in which the water level changes daily. I made a float originally from a Solo cup and some foam, and there is a float sold by AGPtEK Mist Maker which does the job with a little modification (it's TOO boyant, so you need to remove most of the foam). The one other detail you need to know before buying this mister is that the lifespan of the small misting disc in the center of the unit is DRAMATICALLY decreased by running it for more than 10 hours a day; I found this out the hard way, as we ran our first unit 24-7, and it lasted only about 3 months. Buy a digital outlet timer, set it for only 10 hours a day, and you'll get a much longer lifespan. Lastly, the black plastic unit (not the steel one) seems to be more resilient in general, so that's the unit we have currently. ... show more

Bought this for Mycology Cultivation to be used in fruiting chamber. This brings relative humidity from 70% to 92% in 20 minutes in a 3'x2'x2' chamber. Cool fog and light effect. Has rubber plug built into cord to seal opening. Barrel plug is midway through cord allowing to easily plug and unplug device. I have this set up on automated timer. The media could not be loaded. So far so good. Its enough mist for tge effect I wanted and really gives me that "above the clouds" look. The mister is heavily weighted. It needs to be fully submerged but I found it produces the best smoke effect if its just an inch or 2 below the waterline. After a few seconds the mist starts pouring out. Bought this in order to keep a great big, sealed terrarium VERY humid. I am controlling it with a timer. Works perfectly. The plants seem to love it. All I need to do is check the water level about once a week to ensure that the sensor is submerged otherwise it will turn off until you add water (safety feature). ... show more

I used this to make a fogger for a reptile tank out of an old ice cream tub. It ran for 14 hours a day for a solid year, only failed due to corrosion at 2 points compromising the seal of the unit. I soaked it in vinegar to dissolve the solids left by the tap water over the year and got it to work for another hour or 2. If this unit was made of plastic I'm sure it would last much longer! I'm going to go for a plastic version of it and see how long it lasts. DO NOT run them outside of water as they can kill the disc within seconds. ... show more

This unit is slightly bigger than the Alpine fountain foggers I've used in the past and it feels just as sturdy. It seems to put out the same amount of fog, maaaaaybe just a tiny bit less than the more expensive Alpine foggers, but at a third of the price I'm not complaining. Be mindful of where you're using it because it does splash quite a bit. If you put it in a container that's too small, it will splash out water all over the place. I just bought these this week so I can't really say anything about their longevity or hardiness at this point but I will say that after the first couple of uses I'm quite pleased with them. At this point, I definitely don't see myself spending $30 on a fountain fogger again. These are just as effective and very affordable priced. UPDATE 2/22/2017: These foggers are great! Just as good as foggers I've spent $30+ on. They put out lots of fog and they last just as long as the more expensive ones. These are a really good deal, I'll definitely be buying more in the future. Note: In order to really get these to work to their full potential you have to kind of find that "sweet spot" of water depth. If the fogger is sitting too far under the water, it won't work. If it's not sitting deep enough in the water, it won't work. You have to kind of work with it for a minute to find the perfect water level for max fog output but once you do, its totally worth it. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Need a fairly large water basin. Not very good for indoor use. In shallow water (2" - 4"), it makes very nice smoke effect, however it spurts water in a 12"- 18" radius. In deeper water (5"+) it doesn't spurt water, but it doesn't really produce a noticeable smoke effect either. So, not really all that useful to me. ... show more
