UPDATE: Our chocolate lab has been eating Acana for 10 years and is very food motivated. The last bag I purchased about a week ago and now she smells it and is hesitant to eat it…she eats it mostly because she is so hungry but never finishes anymore and the last 10 kibble or so, she she wont eat and literally spits it out. Even if i put a topper in. I suspect things have changed with the formulations. Still food motivated but just not for this food anymore. Super bummed. We are switching. ... show more

A dog trainer told me how to find a list of the best dog foods as rated by a magazine about dogs. I've been trying different brands off and on. My dog, obviously can't tell me what it is that makes her like or dislike different dog foods. My dogs were reluctant to try the food. I checked the best by date and noted that it was less than 2 months before expiration. Am not going to buy this again 😒. They are eating it but it is obviously not with enjoyment.

Like most German shepherd dogs, mine has sensitive stomach and skin. She can only do salmon or lamb with no corn. She use to be so itchy and have diarrhea frequently on other sensitive foods. I'm not yet 100% certain that my dogs will be able to tolerate this food, long-term, without experiencing digestive or allergy issues, but they're doing good right now, and they seem to really like it (without having to add wet food or anything else to it)! I'm happy with this dog food, so far, too! It contains better-quality ingredients than many other high-priced, dry dog foods, and it DOES NOT CONTAIN CHICKEN, which is critical, since chicken is one of the primary ingredients to which many dogs (including mine) have serious allergies! Although, this is common knowledge among pet food companies, most of them still use some form of chicken (chicken fat, broth, meal, by-product, etc.) in their pet foods, which I find extremely disappointing and irresponsible! Lastly, while this dry food is somewhat expensive, it is free of animal by-products and by-product meal, so I feel pretty good about feeding this to them, overall. ... show more
