  • A Gripping Tale of Survival and Love in the Midst of the Black Death
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
As soon as I started playing A Plague Tale: Innocence on my PS5, I was immediately drawn into the game's stunningly detailed world, rich with history and lore. Set in France during the 14th century, the game follows the story of Amicia and her little brother Hugo as they struggle to survive the horrors of the Black Death and fend off the Inquisition that is hunting them down. The graphics in this game are breathtaking, with every inch of the game world beautifully rendered, from the lush countryside to the dingy dungeons of the Inquisition. The attention to detail is remarkable, with even the smallest objects and textures meticulously crafted to immerse the player in the game's world. But what really sets A Plague Tale: Innocence apart is its story. The game's narrative is a deeply emotional and heart-wrenching tale of survival and love, as Amicia and Hugo must rely on each other to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The voice acting is superb, bringing the characters to life and making the player care about their plight. Gameplay-wise, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a mix of stealth, puzzle-solving, and action sequences. The stealth sections are particularly well-done, with the player needing to avoid detection from both enemy soldiers and swarms of plague rats that can devour them in seconds. The puzzles are also satisfyingly challenging, requiring some lateral thinking to solve. Overall, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a stunning game that is both visually stunning and emotionally gripping. It's a must-play for anyone who loves immersive storytelling and well-crafted gameplay. If you're looking for a game that will keep you on the edge of your seat and tug at your heartstrings, then A Plague Tale: Innocence is the game for you. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Not bad.....Not bad at all!
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
One of the best aspects of A Plague Tale is its world, which has an ominous emptiness to it. Well, at least when it comes to living things that aren’t overwhelming waves of terrifying rats. It’s not uncommon to come across mass graves of those who died from the Plague, and in one particularly somber sequence you actually have to walk across an entire field of bodies. Most of the living that you come across want to kill Amicia, Hugo, and various companions that help you throughout their journey. This foreboding atmosphere matches the dreariness and depravity of the areas you’ll explore, from darkened forests to abandoned castles to ghostly villages to Inquisition camps, though they all look far more dangerous and daunting than they actually are. A Plague Tale has the illusion of being pretty open, but you’re often guided towards your next simplistic task by bits of dialogue or on screen clues. This helps to streamline the story and completely eliminates filler activities, but I found myself wanting to see more of the world and to be tested by it in more meaningful ways. A Plague Tale sometimes feels like it’s nudging you forward to safety rather than letting you get the full picture of its fascinating environments. Still, none of the levels look are feel the same and all are richly detailed. What is shown of the setting, at the very least, helps cement a tone that elevates a story that mixes real history with bits of fantasy in surprising ways. The ups and downs of Amicia and Hugo’s relationship is the star, but the world around them further heightens their already compelling tale. A Plague Tale: Innocence’s story of two orphans surviving in a world ravaged by the Black Death is compelling and the stealth gameplay that runs through it is fine-tuned, but the rat-infested world looks more dangerous than it actually is. Everything from the alchemy abilities to the layout of levels feels a bit too guided and the prevalence of crafting materials removes the need to make decisions about how you want to get past your enemies. The story stands out as a result, but there’s not a lot of freedom to experiment or consequences for reckless decisions. In a life full of decisions, this is an easy one to make! • Fantastic game! It's an experience!
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
I was like great, another 3rd-person mediocre game...Well I was completely wrong. The rat story is one to remember as it will keep you wanting more. Very unique. The graphics are not true next gen but it looks better on the PS5. The framerate doesn't dip. Takes advantage of the haptic feedback on the PS5 controller. The second installment is just as good as the this one. Get them both! ... show more

  • 7/10

Story is good, characters are good but not very deeply examined, combat is decent, sneaking is decent - everything about this game is just "good". 7/10. The game I think could be a lot more, but it seems like It was a small project, which is fine. The game is very linear with occasional large areas which I found confusing. The changing dynamic makes me unsure of what the game wants me to do - do you want me to go straight ahead through the game, or take my time exploring and finding secrets and resources? Unfortunately, the game doesn't reward you very much for being thorough in exploring the environments. There were a few times where I explored and found absolutely nothing. Other times, I would find a little secret side story or resources. This kind of irked me - I think it would be better to just choose linear or open. I think ultimately the game is a bit thin and straightforward, but that isn't always a bad thing. I spent around 13 hours on it, I think. Pace of the game is pretty good. I didn't feel like there was much freedom in how to approach combat/sneaking situations. I'd say that mostly, the game is clear that it wants you to approach these situations in a specific way and it's hard to deviate from that. With the exception of some very annoying segments near the end of the game, this is a solid one that is worth your time. That said, I would not spend more than $20 on it. ... show more
