  • Coldplay: They Never Give Up Coldplay: They Never Give Up
Album number seven from Coldplay arrives ripe with subtextual and metaphorical expressions about love and hope, spirituality and predestination, appreciation, gratitude and amazing grace. I applaud Chris Martin and his creative band mates for this bold, brave, and risky outpouring of musical expression. Coldplay will gain some new fans eagerly willing to ride along in the passenger seat, as the band embarks on their journey towards rebirth, renaissance, and enlightenment; and they will lose some die hard fans for the very same reason. If you want to like this album; you will, and if you don't want to like it; you won't. Coldplay will be headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl 2016 and the timing is perfect. Our world is in a dark and scary place right now. Racism and bigoted behavior abounds. Hateful behavior is creeping up and infiltrating its way into our sense of calm. "A Head Full of Dreams" with its "don't let darkness keep you from moving towards the light" philosophy may be just what the doctor ordered to be heard all over the world on Super Bowl Sunday. I like all of the songs on the album, but my absolute favorites are; "Adventure Of A Lifetime," "Hymn For The Weekend "(featuring Beyonce - I don't understand all the hate-talk about her presence on this album,) "Fun," "Everglow," "Amazing Day," "Up & Up," and "Army Of One." The album "Head Full Of Dreams" is a lightheartedly upbeat, optimistic, and euphoric musical experience worth being listened to repeatedly. Here's what I do; I put on a good set of headphones and close my eyes and listen. Most of the time I end up standing on my living room floor giving in to the emotions and physical movement caused by the music. "I can feel my heart beating...'cause you make me feel like I'm alive again." Try it. I double dare you. -:) "Don't ever give up. Believe in love." ~ Coldplay ... show more

  • They are still my favorite!!!
Their newest album is so good!!! Coldplay never dissappoints!!! My review philosophy: As a longtime customer of Amazon, I depend on others' honest reviews. I do my best to provide that same courtesy to others. I purchase lots of items through Amazon, some I get for free, some I get at a discounted rate, and some I pay full price. I will always disclose if I receive an item for free or a discounted rate. I do a lot of reviews so here is a break down on how I determine my star rating of a product: 5 stars – I love it! It is awesome and I highly recommend everyone to purchase this product! 4 stars – I like it, but there are some flaws. Don't we all have flaws? I would purchase again. 3 stars - It was okay, but I would probably not buy it again unless there are no other options. 2 stars – There may be worse products out there, but you can definitely find better choices. 1 star – I dislike the product, I wish I had not purchased it and recommend others to not purchase. ... show more

  • It's a miracle! UN-WHINEY Coldplay!! It's *** GOOD *** !
I love this album, it is effortless to listen to. I bought the CD. The first Coldplay WAY back there (i.e like "Yellow" era) was totally lost on me. I own "Rush of Blood to the Head" only like 3 songs on it. The rest of Rush Of.. frankly drains me, is a malaise, I'm always skipping songs. I discovered Head Full of Dream per chance from the Youtube videos - was not expecting much. The videos for this new album are amusing but it's the music that grabs me. The songs speak to me - all of them. I get energy from this music. It has a melody that I can internalize and enjoy. Life affirming - even the piano ballad. I can * remember * it and it's nourishing not draining. By the way, I'm not a Beyonce fan either but I like what she does on the two songs here. I hope that Coldplay keeps on making albums with this kind of energy and production. I am not naiive about musical production - this album is Produced with a capital P. Thank God it is! I suppose the die-hard fans will call this a soulless sellout. Pah. I ** LOVE ** THIS ALBUM. Keep up the good work! P.S. THE AUDIO MIX The one thing I can agree with some on is - the mix is a bit puzzling on this album. It sounds great on headphones (CD WAV audio 16bit 44.1) on my Fiio or desktop computer (custom USB DAC). However, on my 5.1 system in the living room, whether I set it for plain stereo, or to 5.1 using any of 30 different surround parameters - my living room system sort of fights to deal with centering the vocals for the mix - it feels like a compromise. My downstairs "old school" pure stereo 2.1 (i.e. has subwoofer) system seems to play it OK. In short: I speculate that this mix may be problematic translating for some peoples 5.1 systems. SIDE NOTE: Many props to this band for their sense of humor in producing the mythical Game of Thrones "Musical" for RedNose charity. A sense of humor changes everything. ... show more

  • but being Coldplay in one of their better guises, this is probably one of the very ...
A Head Full of Dreams is a top-rate crowd-pleaser and a very accomplished album with more surprises, more life in it than the largely melancholy Ghost Stories. Some might be upset that they went in the Pop direction; but being Coldplay in one of their better guises, this is probably one of the very best "Pop" albums put out this year. If you want quintessential Coldplay, see Viva la Vida and Parachutes. But their talent and creativity is still very much alive. Although I thought GS was largely overlooked and had two incredible tracks on it that ought to be on their Greatest Hits--Always In My Head and MIdnight--AHFOD sees them back in true form, emanating typical Coldplay brilliance (melody, emotion, catchy anthems bursting with empathy and solidarity) and a few typical Coldplay mistakes (some overproduction, bland lyrics in many songs). Since Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay has often relied more on production than their actually very accomplished instrumentation (see Parachutes and tracks like 1:36, Chinese Sleep Chant, One I Love and Violet Hill if you think Coldplay was never a Rock band or that they don't know how to play their instruments far better than most "pop" acts). However, despite the sometimes excessive production on this album, their excellent instrumentation is completely present, particularly the catchy hooks of Jonny Buckland on guitar. Contrary to some opinion, I don't think Coldplay is becoming The Chris Martin Band anytime soon. As always, the most touted songs on the album are some of the most cheesy and superficial (Hymn for the Weekend, Adventure of a Lifetime) while the far better tracks are hidden from the public: Birds, Everglow, Fun and Army of One absolutely make the album. I hesitate to call the other tracks fillers, because there are a lot of great sounds in them too. Up and Up is also a great track, overproduced at the start but with an incendiary Noel Gallagher solo toward the end. Once it gets going, and Beyonce appears, Hymn really is quite brilliant and lyrical too. ... show more

  • A colorful flair of melodies
If one did not know who sang “Adventure of a Lifetime” there probably would not be doubts from diehard Coldplay fans accustomed to their raw guitar, bass, drums, and vocal driven energy from past albums. However, once the doubts have faded, listeners may consider A Head Full of Dreams as one of their most progressive albums after Mylo Xyloto; this record may appear to be a continuation to where that record left off, especially by the album artwork of very multi-color fluorescent display. Aside from appearance, the music speaks for itself. The band and producers Stargate and Rik Simpson have produced a creative mix of songs. The entire album has a memorable set of 11 songs that may automatically cling to anyone. A few of the highlights include the catchy and danceable “Adventure of a Lifetime,” the two songs that include guest vocals “Hymn for a Weekend” with Beyonce and “Fun” that features Tove Lo that has soft overtones and echoes of “Viva La Vida,” the band has not abandoned the drums and guitars and “Army of One” has that Coldplay sound, and the concluding song “Up and Up” undeniably says it all about the album. A Head Full of Dreams is a musical departure from the previous Ghost Stories that contained too much of an atmospheric and dark and experimental tone. One may say that this record is rejuvenation for lead vocalist and songwriter Chris Martin and the band, a celebration or as the inner liner notes and photograph of the band shows and declares, “love is universal” as is music. In the words of William Shakespeare “If music be the food of love, play on.” ... show more

  • Beautiful Music, Beautiful Record!
This is one of my favorite Coldplay albums so far. It is certainly still the typical Coldplay sound that fans have enjoyed for more than a decade, but there seems to be a little something extra! I love it. The lyrics aren't always traditional and they read more like uncontemporary poetry sometimes. I think that's part of what makes me love it. Everglow is one of my new favorite songs now. If you have ever lost someone, you will definitely relate and if you are emotional like me, you might just shed a tear or two. You know it is good music when you can really feel it in your heart. I would highly recommend this record to anyone with a record player. The music is wonderful, and the vinyl is also fun colors! Can't beat that little addition :) ... show more

  • Best Coldplay Album Yet!
BAM! Out of no where, man! After the disappointing and maudlin Ghost Stories, Coldplay has redeemed themselves! I have literally listened to this album for one month straight, every day on repeat in my car. I simply do not tire of any of it. Every song seems to rejoice with invincible optimism, and a person must be an android if his/her feet don't instinctively tap to all the tunes. Although the overplayed Adventure of a Lifetime will always be the best tune in the collection, the underrated Fun and Everglow are some of the best songs I have ever heard in my life. If you are a Coldplay fan or love fantastic music in general, you must be lying to yourself if you do not own this album yet! ... show more
