Black = true, dark black. Feels nice, and nice drape and hand. Generous cut, gave me an extra 4" per yard, so more like a meter-plus. I bought the black and it will work perfectly. I plan to sew a Minnie Mouse outfit to wear to Disneyland in early September. The black is the accent color to the red with white polka dot fabric I bought from another vendor. Now I need to make a decision on which of 3 patterns I am considering. I am debating whether to be closer to the "real" MInnie Mouse versus choosing a style more complimentary to my body, and have the suggestion of Minnie Mouse. The weight and quality are fine but the color is much lighter than expected. the "brown" shown in the photo appears quite dark, nearer to an "espresso brown". That is what I expected. What I received is a much lighter "chocolate brown".
