For the most part I prefer the more traditional styles of bookcases. I got this because it does look interesting and I wanted something that I could use to display items of differing sizes easier than the traditional style. In the one picture I have a few video game strategy guides, Playstation 1 games, Playstation Portable and Playstation Vita games and some paperback books that didn't quite fit in with the other books. I did put in a few DVDs, CDs, and different video game cases (such as XBox and Nintendo games) and they all fit pretty well. It took me a little over an hour to assemble. There was one piece that I had to redo early but once I got the hang of it, it went smoother. I did not take a picture with the LED lights turned on, but that was easy to put on the back of this bookcase. You can adjust the LED colors, which is pretty cool. Overall it won't hold as much as a traditional bookcase but it makes for an interesting piece. Worth picking up if you aren't looking to display a large amount of books. As I mentioned earlier, you can display a variety of items other than books and could make a great display for games, movies and oddball sized books.

This is a FUN bookshelf, we LOVE it! The instructions were all very clear and assembly was fairly easy. All the pieces and hardware were there, including extra hardware. We did choose to use the drill to speed up the process. It took about 20 minutes to assemble. We could have easy assembled without the drill, it just would have taken a bit longer. The pieces and holes lined up really well. There was only one place where I had to wiggle things to get them to fit together. Not too bad for this type of shelving! There are some screw holes that show once it is fully assembled, and at first I didn't like that, but then when we put books on the shelf you couldn't see them any more! The shelf is well balanced and centered. The lights are very easy to work. There are buttons attached right on the cord, and it also comes with a remote. The remote has more functions, but we all know that remotes walk away, so I love the fact that the lights have controls on the chord as well! I also appreciated that you can choose to either use the lights or not. They have an adhesive strip that sticks to the back of the shelf, and if you choose to, you can use them in a completely different location.

Pros: - Very good quality material. It seems to be either thick particleboard coated with a very high quality enamel or vinyl or a very lightweight but sturdy wood with a similar coating, leaning more towards particleboard based on the exposed material under the pre drilled holes - The pieces are sturdy and sufficiently resistant to chipping/scratches. Wood grain all over. - Pre drilled holes are well aligned. All parts are numbered. - The LED lights are by far the coolest. They have a music mode and the lights will glow in response to vibrations and change brightness/response based on intensity making for a very fun and dynamic experience when watching movies or playing loud music. Cons: - Only one: These are the. Most. Difficult. Assembly instructions I have yet to read. Ever. There are visuals and pictures provided which are basically all you have to go off of because there are either no written instructions or the written parts are extremely difficult to read. The pictures are also pretty confusing and not very helpful. I sort of just had to wing it and hope I made a relatively shelf-shaped object. Some areas of note that I struggled with: - The instructions repeat several times to make sure the holes are all facing upright. The pieces do no have the upright side labeled. You have to make sure your holes match up with the holes in the drawings. When assembling the shelving (piece 11) it is possible to have the holes all facing upwards yet still install it incorrectly. You have to flip AND rotate the board to ensure that the drill holes are facing upwards AND to the right side for the next piece. Otherwise you will put it together and start making squares. - The instructions for the cambolts or whatever are abysmal. In reality it is very simple. First, you need to understand that these screws are meant for attaching pieces in series. Just screw the bolt into the pre drilled hole. Thread the bolt through the wide opening in the next consecutive piece. Then, you place the coin shaped bit with the arrow facing towards the head of the bolt. This places the head of the bolt into the threads of the coin bit. Next, you use your screwdriver to twist the coin bit 180 degrees so the arrow is now facing upwards. This pulls the two pieces together using the plastic barrel that was over the screw and secures them together so you can make longer boards. - TLDR; I seriously wish they had a video tutorial on how to build this shelf because the instructions made it way harder than it needs to be. Good luck building this because its like a nice little brain teaser but once its put together, it is super cute, very cool, and practical.

It fits nicely in a corner and holds more books than I expected without taking up much room. The built-in LED lights are a great touch and make it feel even cozier at night. Assembly was easy and everything feels sturdy. It works well in my home office but would look just as good in a bedroom or living room.
