I have not used these slices yet but I have had mine for a few weeks now and I just wanted to post a quick review based on people saying these slices will crack in dry areas. It is January in southern Wisconsin and according to my temperature/humidity/weather reader the humidity in my apartment (that has forced air heat and nothing is more dry than forced air heat) the humidity in my room, where I have had the slices since I got them, has been between 10 and 18% and so far none of these slices has cracked. I am not saying they won't but I am just saying that so far, so good. If this changes I will be sure to update my review accordingly. Update for Feb 4, 2022: I did prep to the slices as I saw many people recommend be done which was a layer of white paint (I used Liquitex Titanium White and I did a layer to four or five slices in Mars Black) and I am a little sad to report that 13 out of the 30 slices cracked, there may be more cracked in the morning as I am going to allow them to dry over night and if there are more cracked I will again update accordingly. Updated Update 02.05.22: As of yesterday, 21 of the circles have cracked, almost in half. I bought things to try to repair them and sanded them and put much effort into trying to get them to where I could at least use them and not throw out more than half of them but nothing worked. I am sorry to say I feel like I have only wasted my money and my time on this order.

These are a great size for the crafts I'm doing. The thickness is substantial without being clunky. I finish the edges where the bark is with mat decopauge to better preserve the bark. This isn't do to a flaw in the cutting/creatingoh the cut pieces, but a natural aspect of the bark. The slices have imperfections as is to be expected from natural items and are to be enjoyed as these are natural wood slices. I'm doing some with natural wood showing and some I will paint to create the images I want. If you use press on transfers on bare wood, expect slight rustic imperfections in the transfer. I seal the raw wood with mat decopauge medium to help minimize imperfections while showing the natural wood. This preserves the texture while allowing decorattion to be applied easily. These are versatile and functional pieces that can be decorated for any holiday or as lovely rustic or cottage style decorations to be used year round. These are great for craft use and a good value for the money.

I buy these all the time and yes a few come broken ( popped) but over all I am happy with them. You can’t leave them in the sun or use a blow drier on them or they pop and crack. But perfect for ornaments. I do wish I could buy them without the whole too.

They didn’t provide any extra screws which would have made this issue go away. DONT tighten any screws until fully assembled or other screws won’t fit in. This is in the directions and I suggest you listen or you will be very frustrated and it will add to your time putting it together because you WILL have to loosen all of them. Very large Firepit! Great for the price. We used them to make Christmas ornaments and parents loved them. They are a good size to put a picture and or paint on them.

I have made a lot of projects on wood discs, but after working on four of these ornaments, I had to throw away the rest. Most were unusable because of discolorations knots. The surface is so rough, it was like trying to paint on sandpaper, and it was impossible to make neat lines because the paint kept bleeding into all the grainy surface. It is an incredibly soft wood, almost like particle board, so absorbed all the paint and required three coats of acrylic paint and even then still looked faded/transparent. The bark was so soft if kept disintegrating too making a huge mess. The brown string also frayed badly and was too large for the predrilled holes, so I had to use the thinner orange string, even though I bought this set specifically for the natural looking string. I’ve never had any of these problems with any other wood discs I bought for crafts.

I bought 2 sets of these wood slices after trying a different company. These were exactly as advertised. The size was 3.5 - 4", overall very consistent in size. They did not look cheap; they are surprisingly light, which is good for a Christmas tree ornament and none were cracked. I used a branding iron on mine, not paint. I am wondering if the moisture of paint, especially if only on one side caused the splitting that a few people had problems with. I can't tell you how thrilled I was with their quality. It is a shame that they come with orange and white string instead of the red and white, however there was more than enough jute and it looks perfect with a wood slice, so they orange and white is a non-issue.
