Description

An efficient, economical Light Duty 5 Kg Propane Melting Forge that can melt up to 5 Kg (Brass). Other materials will vary due to their volume. Designed for jewelers, metalsmiths, and refiners. This high temperature, fast melting furnace is designed with a powerful DFP burner to heat up to 2300ยฐF. It efficiently melts gold, silver, copper, aluminum, brass, bronze, cast iron, and other metals! Absolutely no electricity is required. Designed with a heavy-duty steel exterior with refractory cement on the furnace floor and firebrick, therefore providing both superior strength and durability; furnace interior is fully lined with 1" of ceramic wool and the cover is lined with 2" to 3" of the ceramic wool as well. Melts in as little as 15 to 20 minutes! Our unit is ready to use in the U.S.A. Works with a standard propane tank. Furnace Body Constructed Of: Steel 16 gauge (1.5 mm) and a lightweight shell. Chamber Dimensions: 6" W x 7.6" H (150 mm x 190 mm). Maximum crucible size is 11 lbs (5 Kg). Outside Dimensions: 8" W x 12" H (200 mm x 300 mm). Weight: 16 lbs (7 Kg). I will update this review as I use this item. So far I have set it up and tested that works. Here are my first impressions: 1. The regulatory gauge hits the edge of the propane tank such that you can not screw it directly. I had to get an extender to put on the tank in order to attach the regulator. Cost $13 2. It did not come with one band strap for the wool that goes on the burner end. I had to go buy this separately even though it is pictured in the instructions. Very annoying. Cost $3 3. The product does not have a silver plate on the front as shown in the picture here. The plate probably doesn't do anything, but just going from what I see this product is that same as another one that costs $100 less (found here https://www.amazon.com/Masters-Propane-Furnace-Smelting-Recycle/dp/B01NBY932Q/). Not sure if there is a difference between them but it is something that makes me suspicious. I will come back after I have used it some more and update this review. ... show more

    • Poor Engineering Design
I should read reviews. Not sure why they used aluminum screw hose fashioners, they came stuck and nearly stripped with screwdriver. thankfully I had some WD-20 which worked. They show a large screw fashioner that holds some ceramic wool which is not included I used some wire instead. Lastly what has me stumped now is the propane tank connection. They say it is designed for standard gas grill type propane tank; this is not true. It is impossible to screw the connector onto the tank because gage and the shutoff tee stoops the connection. I see a review that says I need to get and extender. I see from their product picture the propane tank connector is not what you get. I'll try to update this review when I get this poorly engineered product working. OK, Ace Hardware and Lowes did not have an extender the best they could come up with was take it apart and replace the metal pipe with a larger one. I haven't done that yet but I did take the hose and regulator off the connect, attach the connector and the reattach the regulator and hose. It works but I have to do the reverse and then repeat the process to change the tank. ... show more

Forge is everything I expected. Very pleased with the build quality. Manual is well written, but missing from the package and shown in the illustrations is a large band clamp to secure the ceramic wool to the burner. It's a cheap and easy fix, but probably should be included. Great build for all your melting needs! ... show more

For what it is, this furnace is excellent. Puts out a huge amount of heat and has decent retention. Gets to brass melting temperatures in minutes and is big enough to accommodate a good sized crucible. Some people seem to have a problem with the burner; you need to unscrew the air intake in order to use this properly. ... show more
