Let me address the lid; YES it does fit! There is a trick to get it to seal. At first I too thought the lid didn't fit. Here's what you do. Place the bucket on a hard surface; I used my brick steps. Place the heels of your hands one one section of the rim and press down, using your body weight to press the seal of the lid down over the lip on the bucket. Once that section has sealed, work your way around the rim until all of it has sealed. I love the buckets, perfect for me; I can't lift a full 5 gallon bucket up high enough and the 3.5 gallon does the trick. I am ordering more of them. I'm getting a bucket lid opener also, pretty sure the lid will be hard to remove; but that sucker is sealed tight!

As the title states these lids are a struggle at the start. Had to use my weight to get them on and afterwards I nearly threw my back out trying to open the lid. So i had to get one of those lid opener things and use a youtube video in order to figure it out. But that just shows how it's spillproof (not a ounce of water spills out these babies even going up and down the stairs full of water and rocks) and it's effective and after a while of regulary using the lid it eventually loses up a bit though its still a battle some days lol. These saved my life after my fish tanks cycle crashed, the backup tank had the same issue, and I had nowhere to put my poor betta. She loved this bucket for the few weeks she was in it while things had to get shorted out. If I ever need more I'm buying them from here.

There is no plastic smell which is nice for mixing and storing frozen drinks in bulk.

Maybe they sent me the wrong lids. The buckets are sturdy and fine but the lids do not seal. Tried using a mallet, my husband is very strong and could not get them to tight seal. They click on and off easily and spin around once clicked down. If you need a tight seal these are not for you. They are basically wasted money for us as we have to run out and buy replacements. Update: Tried 2 other brands of lids that we use on other 5 gallon buckets and they are just slightly too small for these buckets. So, replacing just the lids did not work. Very disappointing and clearly the poor reviews get bumped so buyers don't see them. There are quite a few saying the lids don't seal. Buyer beware. Update: seller contacted me and issued a refund for purchase and shipping costs. They were very polite. Given this I would say that they are reputable.
