The wires are crossed on theses. Red should be the hot leg and the black should be the ground leg but the package I received has the wire the opposite the black is the hot leg and the red is the ground leg. They work fine just make sure you wire them correctly for power and ground.

    • First one broke- or was broken !!

Good thing I got (5), needed (3). The first one broke (or was already "broken") when installing the wall wart plug. Something inside the "barrel" is preventing the plug from seating. I can see a strip of metal next to the inner pin that doesn't belong there. Looks like something is dislodged from the inner barrel. Hopefully doesn't happen to the others. At least I have one spare out of the (5). The (3) in use are okay- at the moment. Also, as others have noted, the red lead is grounded to the barrel rather than being tied to the center "hot" pin. One thing you have to watch out for is that these plugs are wired up wrong. The black wire is soldered in the middle when it should be the red. So if you wire it into your device you will either have to make your black wire the hot wire, or you will have to detach the black and red wires and solder them the right way. Me, I just made the black wire the hot wire. Other then that the plug is a good plug. I don't know how these plugs made it through QC (quality control). ... show more

I should have doubled checked but that's my fault. The manufacturer however put the red wire on the outside and the black on the center pin. WTH! Otherwise the quality of the barrel connector is good but I blew some battery chargers with the incorrect wire colors.
