I’m amazed by the array of features now included in a video camera of this size. I got started with the type you hoisted on your shoulder while a connected base unit, slung over your shoulder, held most of the controls. But even as video cameras got smaller and smaller, I never would have predicted that something that easily fits in the palm of your hand could have 4K resolution and enough versatility to serve as a vacation or vlogging camera, allowing you to save or livestream your video, while also serving as a 42-megapixel still camera. This one’s virtues are also, in a sense, its drawbacks – but I’m aiming this review at a user who wants to get up and started quickly without worrying about focusing or f-stops. Unpackage the camera, slip in a battery (two are included), and go. The attached strap secures it against your right hand, giving your thumb easy access to the start-and-stop button. Swing open the door on the camera’s other side and you’re looking at a 3-inch screen. This also turns the camera on. You’re ready to film (as we used to say). Need some fill light? There’s a built-in lamp. It drains the battery more quickly, but you can swap out the batteries while shooting. Need to put yourself in the picture? Turn the camera around and flip the door around. You’ll see yourself on the screen in order to compose the shot. For more stable movies, attach your tripod (there isn’t one included). And if you want to place the camera up to 20 feet away, use the included remote control to activate it. Everything is recorded to a Micro SD card, and you’ll find a 32gb card included. Your videos are saved in a standard MP4 format. The camera has fixed focus, so no worrying about that – but be sure your center of interest dominates the image area. You may have seen videos where a person in the foreground is blurry because the lovely flower garden behind grabbed focus. And there’s an 18x digital zoom capacity, but I’d use it carefully. The resolution is good (be sure to use a tripod for 18x shots), but the zoom itself isn’t very smooth. I don’t mark this as much of a liability, however, because amateurs tend to overuse the battery-killing zoom facility. Connecting the camera to a computer with the included USB cable puts you in webcam mode for streaming to YouTube, Facebook Live, or other livestreaming outlets. It’s also good for Zoom and other video calls. The camera has a built-in microphone, but if you want snazzier audio, find a good mic to plug into the included jack. Among the other included possibilities are a time-lapse mode if you want to speed up sunsets and such, and slow motion for things like sporting events. A small bag is included, but you may want to find something larger and more protective. Although you can charge the batteries internally via USB, I always like to pick up an external charger – another reason for that larger bag. For the price and with the following information considered, it’s worth the money. This is a fun budget camera to play with. I think the value increases with the fact that it comes with two batteries and a 32gb SD card. But the phone you’re reading this review on probably has better video/audio recording. So keep the following in mind: It is a budget camera that’s great for kids to play and learn with. The camera does not have an actual 4k sensor. It takes low-quality video and upscales it to 4k. So you’re not going to get cinema-quality footage from this (unless you’re working on a found footage film!). The shutter speed is slow, especially in medium-low light. The audio is just so-so. It’s not great for action shots unless you’re outside. I love that it has a mic input, so if you’re wanting to start doing talking head videos, it could actually be a good entrance into the video world. Do buy this camera for fun. Don’t buy this camera for anything close to a professional project. ... show more

Neat little start up camcorder. Very light weight and easy to use. Setup was straight forward with all items arriving as described. Video quality is good as are the photos. Battery life seems good with additional battery provided so you don’t need to stop the fun. I found the buttons to be easily accessed with fingers for both video and photos, along with the zoom in/out feature. The remote is good and was functional beyond 30 feet. Love this little camera! It does so much - I haven't even begun to figure out all the things it can do yet. The instruction manual so far is very easy to follow - starts at the very beginning with formatting the memory card and goes from there, so very thorough. It comes with 2 batteries, a charging cord that also works to hook up to your computer, a memory card and a case, so it's everything you need. It's lightweight and I got it to use on vacation. It takes still pictures too although I haven't figured out all the different settings yet. Very impressed with how much such a small, light camera can do! This camcorder is really nice and fun. Using my phone for videos, I had forgotten the quality and ease of use of a camcorder. I played with it so much that I almost forgot to review it. The quality of the videos is second to none, and the remote control is really nice. I don't vlog, but I can see this will be nice on my crappie fishing trips.
