  • Might be the only book you need
Format: Paperback
We've been on our farm for over a decade, and we've bought a lot of how-to books and what have you, and as we sat thumbing through the book last night, we decided that this might be the only book you need for just about everything you want or need to build for your adventures in homesteading. Very rarely do you get a book that is as comprehensive as this one is. Some have a few OK ideas, some have a few good plans but no follow through, and then there are books like this one. I feel like this one will actually free up some space on the bookshelf because it sure can replace a lot of our less than stellar how-to books. I highly recommend this one even if you've been at it a while like we have. Old dogs can always learn new tricks. ... show more

  • Great Collection of Homestead Projects
Format: Paperback
I have been buying books related to homestead ideas and this is by far the BEST all round book that gets you going with several practical projects. Another book I had was all TEXT no photos/illustrations but this one provides the missing pieces to put several projects into practice. An easy read and step by step guide for many different areas of the homestead at very reasonable cost. Get This One First... ... show more

  • It’s not bad, it’s also not great
Format: Paperback
It’s a pretty good reference book for the projects but most of them aren’t anything particularly... unique? I guess is the word. You can find plans just like these for pretty much every project on diy websites. Perk, you can bring this one safely into a garden where a computer might not be as practical. A lot of projects are also probably out of the skill set and toolset of the average diy-er so it’s really going to be most suited to true homesteaders or maybe people who work in construction and have a more varied tool set to work with. I found the most promising projects, and the reason it’s four and not three, to be things like chicken tractor, sheds, fencing, and aqua ponics. Because they are explained in enough detail even with no background you could potentially build them... if you have the right tools and helpers. ... show more

  • Great book!
Format: Paperback
If you want a book that basically tells you and guides you setting up a little backyard homestead, then get this book. You won't be disappointed, in fact I love this book. Easy to read and follow. Thank you!

  • Liked on Day 1
Format: Paperback
I did not even get a chance to open this book after receiving it. Wifey was all over it the moment it came in. She enjoyed the ideas presented in the book and showed how some of the ideas were fairly easy to implement.

  • Great ESPECIALLY if you have lots of spare wood and construction materials!
Format: Paperback
This book is very helpful, and it's especially useful if you have wood, nails, tools, etc. already in your garage or elsewhere. I found myself staring at a pile of scrap/excess lumber in my garage wondering what to do with it, and this book gives you tons of inspiration for how to spend those nice weather weekends. I'd recommend supplementing with youtube or a skilled friend when needed, but this will get you most of the way for almost everything in here. ... show more

  • This is a Homesteaders Reference Must Have, An Excellent resource
Format: Paperback
This book is EXCELLENT. Worth every cent and a must have for homeowners. The color photos and step by step instructions are so clear and easy to understand. If the end times come and there is no Internet or electricity, this book is going to be my Bible for building a homestead. Chicken coops, garden beds, solar panels, they cover it all. My only gripe is that I bought a paperback and a hardcover or spiral would be much preferred for easy use and durability. But on the whole, this guide is FABULOUS. ... show more

  • A little too basic…
Format: Paperback
There’s nothing wrong with this book. It has some great ideas about building useful garden beds, sheds, etc. It not super deep, in fact it’s a little too basic for my needs. If you’re a beginner/novice at building this is a good resource.
