  • Easy set-up, good quality wash, simple wash settings.
Easy set-up, good quality wash, simple wash settings. I used shake-absorbing pads under the feet, which I bought on Amazon, and were really helpful. Wash cycles are quiet too.

  • Odors
Main issue I have is it does not remove the smell from the armpits of my colored T-shirts even with Heavy Duty cycle, otherwise, no issue with stains and odors. I use A&H with Oxi-clean. Going to try Downy Rinse & Refresh. Haven't tried pre-treating the arm pits or using the Pre-Wash and Extra Rinse options but shouldn't be necessary just to wash T shirts. ... show more

  • Can't progress to spin cycle
This washer is terrible. The washer is frequently unable to begin its spin cycle because starting to spin the wet clothes makes the washer shake with a huge banging. It must pause, try to adjust the wet clothes with a slow rotation, and start again. This inability to progress to spin happens rarely with small loads (~5 pounds of kids clothes), often with medium sized loads (~10 pounds of adult clothes including a sweater or two), and always if anything bulky is included (towels, bed sheets, throw blankets). When the washer has a hard time starting the spin cycle, the best case is that the washer will attempt to rebalance the wet clothes over and over again, not making any progress for ~20-60 minutes before the stars align and spin occurs. Rebalancing by hand does not help. The bad scenario is that among all of the failed spin attempts, the washer will begin to leak water on the floor. It's hard to tell exactly where the water is coming from, but after some experimentation, it seems to come from the overflow vent in the back. We have called LG service multiple times, but they had no solution for the inability to progress to spin cycle ("try rebalancing by hand" is not useful when gravity inevitably pulls the wet clothes back to the bottom of the drum) and we didn't have the leaking problem until we had owned the washer for 13 months, which is one month more than the warranty. It was professionally installed and balanced, and I have personally confirmed the balance and level installation multiple times. I wish I had bought something else. ... show more

  • worked until 3 year warranty was up.
Purchased at Home Depot based on reviews (since found to be questionable). The LG recommended amount of detergent (even the minimal amount) caused the machine to leak, which resulted in damaged sheet rock and rusted the tub bearings. By 3 years after purchase, the machine sounded like a LOUD fast moving train in the spin cycle. LG customer service was a bad joke. The call center was so noisy the poor worker could barely hear me and vice versa. Got routed to another center, where they told me having LG handle the repair would cost $400+. After asking how long it would take to get a tech in, I was told LG had no service techs in my area, but provided names of a few "authorized repairmen". Had the repair guy come to assess. He verified there was a bearing issue, and also said the motherboard was malfunctioning. He said LG washers were "pretty good machines", but recommended against repairing the machine, and charged $139.00 for a five minute house call. Suggest you google "LG washer noise". There are several Youtube videos on how to replace the bearings and seals, with a total of hundreds of thousands of views. All these note that the repair is a long, tedious process, and is unsuccessful 20% of the time. So I saved a little on energy for hot water and drying costs, but spent $700 for the washer, which lasted 3 years and a couple months. ... show more

  • Walks out the laundry room door...
...down the hall and talks with the LG frig who is never shy about answering. When our previous washer may have died (we hated it and swore at the first hint of trouble it was out the door) we were thrilled to get this new one. The thrill lasted about 3 washes and we cried to have our old one back. There is no such thing as a balanced load of anything larger than socks - OK - t-shirts also, if they're the same size, weight, and style. And do not put a pair of socks in with sheets - you will be sorry. Every load shudders, and most have walked the machine substantially out of position. The wash times (thanks to HE) are extravagant - many over 90 minutes, during which I have glued myself to it waiting to see if it will walk. Do not run a load and think you can run errands while it's washing. Several times I have given up trying for any spin and just thrown it all in the dryer. IF you are successful with a wash, rinse and spin, and maybe even the extra rinse and spin, check to make sure you actually put your laundry in it. Yes, it was professionally installed. Yes, it is level in every direction, we check it after each use, because it violently shudders even if it doesn't walk. Yes, it is on risers. Yes, our floor is stable and level. Our only solutions are work-arounds. Pretty sad situation for the money spent. ... show more

  • Can't progress to spin cycle
We have EXACTLY the same problem with our LG WM3400CW as 'NerdDad'. At 13 months (just out of warranty) the machine was progressively less likely to start the spin cycle at the end of the wash and now (a few weeks/loads later) the machine will never go into the spin cycle. We asked an appliance engineer to diagnose the problem. We were told that the 'Main Board' should be replaced. There was no guarantee that this would fix the problem though. Totally regret the purchase of this machine, will avoid LG in future. We are considering buying a separate spinner, which is cheaper than the cost of the 'Main Board'. But, of course, more hassle at laundry time. ... show more
