  • Delightfully practical. Works well. …just some design ‘kinks’ to work out.
Size: 4-1/2 inch(115mm)
I carve stone, and a braised flat cup wheel is one of the main tools in use my craft. Flat cup wheels can be quite expensive, so I was delighted to find an economically manufactured tool, at a half or third the price of others, and whose ‘reversible’ feature further lengthens its useful life. As a resourceful person I appreciate practicality in tool design. I like the simplicity of the design and manufacture (flat brazed disk with quad adapter, rather than milled or welded pieces). And I really like the ability to “use it all the way up” by reversing the disc in order to use up both sides. Well done! This particular disc is 4.5” in diameter. I usually use 4” size, as it is more maneuverable, and is the standard. However, I found that the slightly larger size disc gives me noticeably more control on the grinding surface as I shape and smooth the stone. In cutting too, it seemed to give me a more stable, smooth contact with the stone, which gave me a cleaner start, and a smoother ride as I cut down into the stone. (A smaller disc may tend to gouge, pit, bounce, and jibe off course more readily than the slightly larger blade.) Two improvements I might wish for: 1) The industry standard V1 flat wheel is a tad thicker than this disc tool (4mm vs 2mm). Initially I wouldn’t have thought the thickness would make a difference, but it does. When skimming the blade over a flat, or nearly flat surface the leading edge can easily gouge down into the stone. With the thicker disc there is more of a deflecting curve (like the front of your skis) which helps avoid that. (That extra curve helps even on the trailing edge too.) Another benefit of the thicker disc is that it makes it stronger and more resistant to warping under the knocks and stresses of heavy use. —By all means, keep the simpler and cheaper manufacturing scheme of the flat disc. I absolutely love the flat, reversible disc. …Just make it a little bit thicker. 2) The typical quad hub adapter is made of brass or steel; this one is aluminum. That made me a bit nervous the first time I saw it, thinking it might not be strong enough. And indeed, it has proven to be so. If the spinning blade binds of kicks-back, or is stressed in some way, the hub may bend slightly, so that the disc wobbles slightly, no longer the precision tool it had been. As far as rugged durability, I believe the aluminum hub is the weak link; it should be made of steel. —In the end, what is the benefit of a reversible disc, promising an extended life, if the hub bends early on, rendering the tool unusable? [Clarification: The bent aluminum hub happened on another, nearly identical disc of the same design, but a 4” size. I just ‘happened’ to have a pair of spare quad hubs on hand, so I was able to replace the damaged one without delay. But as a result I don’t feel as free to use my 4.5” tool as heavily as I would like. I really just need to replace the aluminum quad hubs with steel ones.] **Even with these complaints, I must underscore how much I love the brilliant practicality, economy and resource responsibility of the flat disc design, and especially the reversibility feature. Kudos to the designers! With the improvements I suggest, I believe this tool could be a true, robust competitor. ... show more

  • Cuts and grinds steel fast, without dust
Size: 4-1/2 inch(115mm)
So far I have used this disc to cut and grind steel. It does so quickly and much cleaner than with an abrasive disc, without the dust and the smell. I like that the disc can be reversed. For my use the thinness is a plus, so it cuts a thinner kerf, faster and with less waste. Recommended.

  • Works very well!
Size: 4-1/2 inch(115mm)
I originally ordered this to score a line around some cracked concrete in my driveway, but opted to use a larger blade on my circular saw instead. Instead of the main cut, I ended up using this to smooth the transition between new and old concrete. There was a very slight lip where my new concrete met the old and this disk did a great job of smoothing down the transition so that there is no lip at all. There's a ton of diamond grit on here so cutting was very easy. I used it without water so it was quite dusty but I'm sure if you use a host to release a trickle of water across your work area you'll cut the dust down drastically and help keep your tool cool and extend the life of the tool. ... show more

  • Love this for sharpening
Size: 4-1/2 inch(115mm)
I'm am avid turner in my wood shop so am often faced with having to sharpen tools. While I tend to use replaceable tipped tools, eventually you have to sharpen a high speed steel tool. This wheel is perfect for fine sharpening. It's not really designed for removing deep knicks and gouges in the steel but if you need to put a razor sharp edge on a tool, this is the wheel you want to use. I put a wonderful edge on a scraper and a bowl gouge. I highly recommend this wheel. ... show more

  • Cuts glass like butter
Size: 4-1/2 inch(115mm)
I really love this diamond disk, it cuts glass very well. It makes very clean cuts and doesn't seem to wear down too quickly. I've used it to cut some old glass shelves to fit into some other pieces that were missing the glass and also for cutting some broken mirrors down and into new shapes to put in new frames. They have all turned out nicely. I do recommend this for glass for sure, I haven't used it to cut anything else since it worked so well for the glass. I would prefer not to risk messing it up on tile or metal since I don't cut those near as often. ... show more

I got this item to grind the ends off of the bolt to install one inch spacers on my Jeep Compass. It made very fast work of the job. And that was grinding hardened steel bolts for the lug nuts.
